I noticed that someone had asked how she got the name coco and i am doing a project on coco now and she got the name from her singing career when she was younger and Coco came from one of the songs she sang ‘Qui qu’a vu Coco dans le trocadero’ at a musical hall called ‘La Rotonde’ in 1905.

you know, my fashion history teacher at parsons hated coco chanel. not because of her clothes, etc, but what we learnt in school wasn’t just about what she made. i used to totally adore her too, and i thought she was amazing. but he also told us about how she jumped from rich man to a richer man to support herself, and her business. i guess that is sort of empowerment, but i don’t know about calling it feminism. and that was just one of the very disturbing facts we learned about chanel. but, ah well! i actually love chanel better in karl’s hands. oh wait, i just love karl.

Wow, now I love her even more! I never knew she grew up as an orphan. I love stories of people who’ve come from ‘nowhere’ and built themselves up to be rich and famous – you go, girl.
