I’m constantly amazed by your ability to wear your belts so high on your torso. I can only do that if I hold my breath.

Grant – Aw thank you love! In real life I look quite naked under this dress and I always get double takes in public!

Nadist – I actually have the word’s longest torso so my chub is quite evenly distributed there-by making breathing easier when I wear belts high up. It really is curse.

Just wanted to say my Aunty is a manager with the Salvos and the only time she would put a higher price on something is if it were actually worth it, ie she recently had designer shoes (D&G, Versace & Dior, gah) come into her shop, brand new, well she marked them at a price where the girls buying them would have gotten a major, major, major bargain but the S/A still made money. (Damn me for not having size 7 feet!!)

That said, I know for a fact that stores differ in the way they price- I know exactly what you are talking about with your dress today, it is pointless having a 2nd hand chain store dress at such a high price!

It is frustrating when thrift stores jack up the prices. ‘Round here, they typically only do it on items that are less likely to appeal to anyone toeing the poverty line, thank goodness. They know what’s a necessity and what’s a trendster’s dream. Plus I console myself in thinking that, if it’s Salvation Army or ARC, my money will be going right back into the charity anyway.

Still. Annoying.

BAD grannies, love it! I feel the same way about the price jacking. I was at a thrift the other day and the cute vintage dresses were all 30$, which is more than i sell them on Etsy for. Its just gotten ridiculous. I don’t mind as much when it is at a charity shop because I know the money is going to a good place. But when it’s value village , and the owner is a total ass, from what I have heard, from many, I get really annoyed. Either way I won’t pay it, i’ll leave that to someone else. Well, I might pay it if it is amazing enough, but that is rare. The worst is when they are charging a lot for a cheap forever21 piece that you know cost 10 bucks in the first place. I guess everyone can’t be as up on fashion brands and pricing as us bloggers. And I’m sure the grannies were cute…….right?

Tash – Oh I totally understand jacking up the price of designer stuff but it needs to be reasonable. I saw pair of very old very worn Nine West shoes in Vinnies that they were trying to sell for $50! Come one!

Jocelyne – I actually think that the Salvos are trying to avoid people buying and re-selling. They want to make the profit themselves. But they need to be way more educated in order to pull that off. Even just being aware of what the garment cost in the first place would be a start.

I feel you, high prices at a charity thrift stores defeats the purpose. I understand the money goes to charity, but what about the people that can’t afford to say “oh its ok the money goes to charity”? I grew up thrifting in southern california WAY before it became trendy. Believe me, the people I was shopping next to couldn’t afford even a $10 dress.

I remember the good ole days when you could get a vintage dress for like $1
