Boyfriend jeans – Daily Style

by Carly Jacobs

boyfirendjeans

I’ve had these jeans for around ten years but I’ve been wearing them more than I ever have recently because they fit much looser and are now in the elusive ‘boyfriend jean’ category. They are also hideously comfortable. Wearing them to work is slightly hazardous though as my special needs students are very sensory and like to stick their hands in all the holes… awkward.

* Jeans from Cotton On circa 2001
* Singlet top from Supre
* Cardigan from Dotti (super bargain – $30 and 100% cotton. I’m such a sucker for natural fibres.)
* Flats from Trennery (If you’re considering buying the Country Road flats but the toe cleavage is too much for you try the Trennery ones. They have a much more modest cut at the toe. I’ve serious problems with excessive toe cleavage. More so than excessive breast cleavage.)
* Scarf from Country Road

I’m off to a night course at my school to learn how to set gems. Terribly exciting…

P.S Trend rocking much? Hello nude flats, boyfriend jeans, sailor stripes, over-sized scarves. I should just stand in the window at Sportsgirl…

Daily style – Perfect Type A Day.

by Carly Jacobs

vanilla soft serve

This morning I got up, went straight to the gym, did my washing, cleaned the house, cleaned out my tool box, went shopping and did my homework. On days like this I want to kick my own arse for being such a nerd…

* Dress from Metalicus
* Shoes from Trenery (I was such a grown up when I bought these last week I took them immediately to be rubber soled and waterproofed. Go Grandma Smaggle!)
* Cardigan from Harem on Brunswick Street
* Coin necklace from Poppy Smaggle
* Earrings from Girlprops

I’ve been wanting a dress like this for ages so I let myself buy it yesterday. I will be eating baked beans for the rest of the month… but who cares? I look like a vanilla soft serve cone!

How was your weekend poppet?

Can I get a consensus? Plus sized fashion.

by Carly Jacobs

crystal renn Image

My dear auntie Janice owns a plus-sized clothing and footwear business called Boots for Broads that custom makes boots and clothing for larger ladies. She was interviewed for the Sydney Morning Herald this week (proud much!) and there is one hell of a debate going on over there. Basically the article outlines that as the people of our country are growing larger (an undeniable fact) there are more designers that are catering for this growth such as Boots for Broads and City Chic. There are quite a few commenters out there that disagree with this movement and make the point that people that are overweight should not be offered fashionable clothing choices as they are a strain on our health care system and that denying them fashionable clothes will be an incentive for weight loss. The other side is arguing that plus-sized women exist, are beautiful, and should have the same choices in fashion as their slimmer counter parts. The debate is rather fierce at the moment but both sides are throwing some pretty rational punches and I thought that I would hand this feud over to my readers…

Questions are… Do you agree that plus-sized fashions are allowing already unhealthily overweight people to remain so? What’s your definition of plus-sized? Is being ‘plus-sized’ truly a choice?

I’m curious to see what people think. Put your gloves on… lets throw ourselves in the boxing ring!

Does anyone else…?

by Carly Jacobs

ponder Image

* Cough up a lung when they cook curry?

* Think it’s really weird/embarrassing when someone makes you repeat the joke you just made for the other people who didn’t hear it? Most of the time, you just had to be there.

* Get turned off apples for months if they happen to get a really shit one?

* Think that adults who sing in amateur choirs are just a teeny bit strange?

* Secretly hate Top Gear but pretend to like it in front of their boyfriend?

* Nod in sympathy as your friend tells you about their recent and violent bout of gastro whilst mentally restraining yourself from licking their face in the hope of catching it and dropping a couple of kilos?

* Get exceptionally itchy hair whenever anyone talks about nits?

* Pretend that people in other cars are stalking you on the way to work?

* Think I’m going to get my arse kicked for the adults in amateur choirs comment?

Lady’s loves and loathes…

by Carly Jacobs

owl

Lady loves…

* Losing things you love and then finding them again. Like this red school uniform hoody from Oxford in England that I’ve had for years that I thought I lost. It reminds me of drinking snake bites at the boys college across the road and spending my taxi money on chips and mayo.

* Giving myself a good old wrist slapping. I skipped half my workout today because my pants were too loose, my socks were falling down into my shoes and one of my earphones wasn’t working. I chucked a mondo tanty. Then mentally kicked my own butt all the way home for being such a poor little middle class white girl. Seriously. Lets get some perspective.

* Soy milk smoothies with bananas and frozen blueberries.

* My beautiful friends organising an Easter egg hunt. It was so much fun. We were hurling abuse and last naming each other. I don’t believe I’ve ever used the phrase ‘You’re f*cked Milthorpe!’ during an activity specifically designed for children.

* Breaking Bad. We are utterly, utterly addicted.

* Swedish Hasbeens. They are crazy expensive but when I’m rich they are going to my signature shoe and I will have twenty different pairs and that’s all I will wear. With smoky eyeliner, slim leg jeans and inky nail polish.

* My Can I Get a Consensus? segments. I love you guys so much.

* Perfect apples.

Lady loathes…

* My inability to say no. I love being busy but sometimes I hate myself for not giving myself holidays.

* Waking up feeling pummelled. For no reason.

* Designing awesome jewels while drifting off to sleep and forgetting all about them in the morning.

* Living in two cities. It’s really starting to shit me.

What about you angel face? Anything to share?

Can I get a consensus? Wedding Etiquette…

by Carly Jacobs

19 Once Wed

If you’re a long time Smaggle reader you’ll know that I am a serial bridesmaid and in November this year I’ll be clocking up my third spin down the aisle. I was discussing the hens night with the bride to be and we were curious…

Can you invite someone to the hens night and not invite them to the wedding? What about the engagement party? Also what’s the etiquette when inviting people to the ceremony and not the reception?

I’m in a unique position in that I have never been to a wedding that I wasn’t involved in or wasn’t  a very close friend so I can’t answer these questions. What do you guys think?

My only opinion is that the couple shouldn’t send proper invitations to the ceremony if the person is not invited to the reception. I think an informal, verbal invitation is more appropriate but I have been unanimously outvoted by all my friends on this point so I’m turning it over to my lovely readers!

So the three questions are…

1. Can you invite someone to the hens night and not invite them to the wedding?

2. Can you invite people to the engagement party and not the wedding?

3. Should the couple send formal invitations to the ceremony if the guest is not also invited to the reception or should the invitation be less formal?

Please also let me know where are you from. I would love to see how the rules differ from country to country. I can’t wait to hear what you all have to say… I’m feeling a few wedding rants coming my way. Excellent…
