Can I get a consensus? Do you wear g-strings?

Can I get a consensus? Do you wear g-strings?

I was at the gym the other day and saw another woman getting changed, as you do. She was wearing a g-string and I was a little shocked to see someone wearing one in real life. Simply because I kind of thought they had gone out of style. I went through a g-string phase when I was about 19 but it was short lived and I think most of my female friends have also moved on.

My question to you is this… Do you wear g-strings? Or did you used to wear g-strings? Or ‘thongs’ for my American readers? How do you feel about them? Do you think that such underwear seems to go through phases of being fashionable? Or am I just hanging around with a more conservative crowd?

P.S For the record, I switched to nude, seamless underwear when I was about 20 and have never looked back. Incredibly un-sexy but I’m telling you, no one has ever seen an underwear bulge on this gal…

I too used to do the g-string thing but I really got over it. I don’t know why I ever found them comfortable. Or maybe it’s something to do with living in the desert now and needing a little more ‘sweat support’ of 45+ days.
I do know that most of my friends are still faithful followers of the g-string though.

I think everyone has a phase when they are younger, trying out the thongs. My phase lasted about 20 minutes.

I have been dedicated to boyshorts for quite some time. I honestly feel way more sexy in boyshorts than those stupid thongs.

Who wants a purposeful weggie all day anyway?

I used to be strictly G String, but over the last two years have introduced cheeky boy’s and briefs into the equation. It all depends on what I am wearing, if I just have on a floaty dress and there is a chance of a Marilyn moment, it is cheeky boys or briefs. Otherwise I wear g strings, but never ever t strings, I have what I shall politely and positively refer to as curves, but also known in reality as saddlebags, and as such t strings dig into said curves and look most unflattering. I always buy matching underwear, and try to buy both a brief or cheeky boy as well as a g string if they have options in the range. Oh and I also avoid standard boy legs as they are quite unflattering on the hipline too.

I wear all kinds of underwear. It really depends on my mood and what I’m wearing, although I’m mostly happy with hipsters, and maybe sometimes cheekies. I have a big butt, and stay away from anything that will give me horrid panty lines and hipsters do the trick as they cover the butt but look cute and are low-cut. I’m 23 and already I’m more concerned with comfort and pantylines than how sexy I can look.
I design for one of the biggest lingerie companies in Mexico, and as far a sales go, thongs are big sellers, but then again so are granny panties.
In the end I guess it’s about comfort. Some people are super happy with bigger underwear, and others are just not comfortable with a ton of fabric in that area.
And something I’ve learned at my job: there is a thong for everybody type. Different cuts and shapes for differents typed bodies and sizes and I surely can tell you it makes a difference. I never thought I’d say this as it sounds completely counter-intuitive, but some thongs can even make you look slimmer, or your butt look smaller.

I used to, but I too moved on.

I’m a bit fussy with underwear now. Always nude though. Yawn. πŸ˜‰

Sometimes. I own a lot of them, but tend not to wear them unless I’ve run out of my seamless ones and my boyleg ones and need to avoid VPL.

Depends on what I’m wearing! With jeans, g-strings are the way to go as they provide minimal ‘bunch’.

That said, I rarely wear jeans or trousers these days so prefer a fuller cut. They’re more comfy and way cuter.

I totally used to wear g-strings in my 18-19-20-year old days. Then I went boyleg and now I am all about Thunderpants (supreme full-coverage awesome-fitting knickers). I am a dress-wearing maniac so I like extra-giant knickers. I have always hated ‘normal’ knickers because they inevitably go up my bum! I have really narrow hips but there’s plenty of derriere if you see me in profile . .

I wear the nude seamless ones too!
They are amazing. None of this ‘VPL’ (visible panty line) business happening with me πŸ™‚ xx

I mainly save g-strings for sexytimes with my partner. I like my underwear to be both sexy and practical, so I usually go for a lacey/satin brief/boyleg of some kind rather than a g-string.

  11. Raquel 14 years ago

No. My butt is too big for g-strings… I feel like I’m not supported enough lol. Even when it comes to sexytime I don’t go there. I got for stretch cotton briefs, and I have a few pairs of seamless ones too.

I was wondering about this recently too! An American friend of mine commented to me the other day about an Australian girl who was wearing tight pants and he could see her panty line through them – he couldn’t BELIEVE that she wasn’t wearing a g-string.. and I told him I wasn’t surprised as I believed Aussie girls sorta got over that phase a while ago! But it got me wondering if that was just me or Aussie girls in general! Like you I tried the g-string thing for a while as a teenager, but these days I’m all about boylegs and lacy french knickers! But apparently American women are all about the thong.

Wow!! I’m a G girl from way back (well since started buying my own underwear to be promptly question by pa and ma… What is that!? Anyways…). Actaully I live by a set of underwear rules; under pants/jeans/shorts G always, dresses/skirts always full coverage (ALWAYS), exercising needs full coverage too, running around the house/special cuddles definitely cheeky boys!! G’s have always been about function I don’t think they’re very attractive – a point which leads to a whole nother set of rantings regarding etiquette of G wearing. Don’t even get me started on bras πŸ™‚ ok enough from me… Great topic!

  14. Bekman 14 years ago

I too used to wear them. Now I’m a cotton girl through and through but occasionally in order to initiate ‘special cuddles’ as (Miss A puts it so beautifully) I will grab a sexy impractical g-string from the bedside drawer reserved especially for this purpose and put it on and slip in with my Mr. we’ve been together for 4.5 years and to this day he thinks that occasionally I just like to sleep in a g-string. He still hasn’t cottoned on (no pun intended…OK it was) to the fact that these nights coincide with the nights he thinks it’s his idea to jump my bones. x

I am still a card carrying thong supporter but they really aren’t for everyday wear. Most days but not everyday. Never for the gym, rarely under skirts and dresses, rarely when the weather is cold. Definitely for days when I want to wear matching underwear under my everyday clothes and feel like a sex goddess.

I used to do the g-thang because all my friends were and it was totally uncool to have a panty line. I got over it very quickly and decided I’d rather have a panty line then feel like I have a wedgie all day.
I am really not a fan and I’m pretty sure most of my friends aren’t fans either… but, I could have a super conservative bunch of friends too!!

  17. E 14 years ago

    Ewww no.
I’m a bit bemused by bottom support issues.
If you don’t want a line don’t wear anything.
I’m for comfort all the way and healthy lady-parts.
I couldn’t care less what anyone else thinks and to be honest, I never think about anyone else’s lingerie unless their low-slung waistband forces me to. As a terribly pale person – nude underwear looks like some kind of surgical appliance. Black and cotton all the way, here for me.

I went through a phase when I was about 15-16 where I only wore thongs and NEVER AGAIN. I stick with hipsters or boy shorts now – I’m super super picky about my underwear because I am (TMI?) verrry prone to yeast infections, so anything not 100% cotton is right out, along with thongs. I try to avoid panty lines, but sometimes they’re unavoidable, and I am perfectly okay with that – better pantylines than a perma-wedgie or an infection!

  19. My first g-string memory was a result of curiosity (after all, they were EVERYWHERE in stores for a while in 2004/2005!), but oh no, I haven’t worn one since then and am very grateful! (Sure, they can be sexy, but honestly, where’s the support? Or comfort?!)

  20. ruin 14 years ago

I own a few pairs but rearely wear them and when I do I’m still a little frightened to fart in them.

  21. AshleyGee 14 years ago

Thongs are out of fashion? Who knew? I wear them probably 2-3 times a week. And maybe I just have a numb ass, but I don’t ever get the wedgie feeling.

What’s weirder to me is that someone was working out in that sucker. No way.

  22. Jelenie 14 years ago

I too when into a g-string phase for a brief few months in the early 20’s. I think I found them on sale at Best & Less and snapped a few up. But there’s only so much bum picking a girl can do & it was very uncomfortable! I’ve discovered comfortable briefs and I haven’t looked back.

Never been a great fan of the g. Bought one, tried it once, went ‘wtf? what a waste of money’ and happily trudged on back to my frilly bikini cuts. And my boy jocks. Dead serious, I buy some men’s underwear because they’re just so damn comfy. Men have been hiding this great secret from us ladies!

  24. nessbow 14 years ago

I wear g-string several times a week, both for functional reasons and comfort reasons. I don’t find g-strings uncomfortable at all, which seems to be unusual. I used to wear g’s every single day, but now I wear them less often.

  25. Tez 14 years ago

I still use them all the time. And I’m not that young anymore! I have, however, realised the value of good quality g-strings, so I try to spend a bit extra to get the comfy ones. I can’t even tell I’m wearing them sometimes, they’re so comfy!

  26. reckless daughter 14 years ago

yep, over them. but I may still have one in the depths of the underwear drawer. not sure really.

  27. WendyB 14 years ago

Yep, I wear them. I’ve never found any of those nude seamless panties to be as unobtrusive as advertised.

  28. Louise C 14 years ago

    I still do the G-string!!

I wear them with my slim-fitting stuff- pencil skirts, slim pants etc. I buy a size up from my usual pant size (usually a 10, so G-strings are always size 12-14, depending on if it’s the “t” string or a normal G) and I don’t get the wedgies! A decent French knicker is always a must in my undies drawer for under dresses and my less-fitted skirts -no VPL with those babies (unless you wear said knickers/pants too tight!)

At home when I’m not going anywhere for a day? Fiance’s satin boxers and a singlet. They are so comfy it ain’t funny.

Here in the States there are quite a few G-string/thong wearers about. I usually cringe when I notice them (isn’t the whole point to avoid the dreaded ‘panty-lines’?).
I am an old fashioned girl and I believe that all the parts down there should be covered (at least for sanitary reasons but also for modesty).
Also, g-strings do nothing to help the shape of a bum. To avoid panty lines and to maintain dignity/modesty AND lift and shape, I say wear some great booty shapers like Spanx – much more effective and less trashy looking (and not to mention comfortable…when I wear a thong I feel like I am wearing some sort of harness). I am passionate in my distain for these types of under garments on many levels.

  30. Emskie 11 years ago

Weirdly, I wear them for yoga and the gym. I find them far more comfortable than briefs when I’m sweating! The little Bonds ones are so light you barely know you’re wearing them. I also have a few on rotation for tight pants and skirts. I’m so paranoid about VPL that I don’t trust even the seamless briefs. I can always swear I see a hint of line definition… probably all in my head!

  31. Mads 11 years ago

My functional, everyday underwear is plain, brief-cut, black cotton underwear. It is super comfortable, and not embarrassing at all. Plain black underwear is even sexy, and matches any plain black bra.

I have a sizeable lingerie collection, including several G-strings and other impractical lace ‘underwear’ which I reserve for intimate moments with my husband πŸ™‚

  32. Cuz Lucy 11 years ago

I wear a gstring nearly everyday, I find them more comfortable and I HATE underwear lines!! I hate underwear lines on me and I hate underwear lines on other people. Completely ruins outfits if you ask me!

  33. Nikki S. 7 years ago

Love my thongs and g-strings! My favorite g-strings are usually silky. Most of my thongs are lace and I have them in all colors. So comfy. Just makes me feel sexy and my husband loves to pull down my waistband to see which on I’m wearing today πŸ˜‰
