DIY – How to make a flower petal neckpiece

by Carly Jacobs

DIYpetaloutfit

Materials

* Fake flower petals – You can buy these separate from bridal stores or just pull apart some fake flowers.
* Needle and thread
* Scissors
* Five metres of soft ribbon

Make it

1. Lay ribbon out flat and pin petals into place. It works better if they are unevenly placed along the ribbon.

2. Sew each petal on individually. Cut loose threads as you go.

3. Wear the neckpiece wrapped loosely around your neck.

Happy crafting!

* Go to the park? Swing on the swings? Do flips on the monkey bars? Kick a soccer ball around?

* Colour in? Lie on your belly on the floor with coloured pencils? Scrap books? Glitter? Crayons?

* Eat a fairy bread sandwich?

* Build a castle out of lego?

* Wear your hair in two long plaits? A ponytail? A bun with a little ribbon tied around it?

* Give your girlfriend a make over using only pink tones? Peachy cheeks? Rosey lips? Berry lids?

How to deal with a hangover… like a lady.

by Carly Jacobs

cocktail2_01Image

I’m not twenty one anymore, a sad fact that my alcoholism won’t seem to get on board with. This means that when I have a night out on the town it often takes days for me to recover. I feel, after much research and practice, that I have the perfect formula for fast hang over recovery. The plan is three-fold.

BEFORE

* Eat food. Something healthy and in the form of good carbohydrates. Like grainy bread, porridge or brown rice. Sushi is a pretty perfect pre-drinking meal.

* Drink water. Lots of it.

* Have a Berocca or similar water dissolvable vitamin B supplement.

DURING

* Drink water. Lots of it.

* Try to stick to one drink. I used to think this was an urban drinking myth but after years of self testing I’ve come to realise there’s merit to this rule.

* If you choose to drink spirits go easy on sugary mixers. You don’t need a sugar hangover on top of the alcohol one.

* If you’re having a lengthy drinking session, try to have an hour break with no alcohol. Have a mineral water, go for a walk, have a dance. It makes such difference.

* Do not go to bed drunk. This is really difficult to achieve sometimes but if you can get to at least a semi-sober state before you collapse into bed you will have a better sleep and wake up feeling refreshed and less like someone ground your brains.

* Before bed, have as much water as you can physically drink and another a Berocca.

AFTER

* Drink water. Again, as much as you can handle. Ridiculous amounts. Your body needs it, I promise.

* Have another Berocca and some electrolyte powder. You can buy it at the chemist and it’s generally used for severe dehydration after sickness but it’s a miracle for hangovers as it completely re-hydrates you.

* Eat carefully. Try fresh fruit and vegetables, pure juice and some wholegrain toast. A banana smoothie is also fantastic as bananas are full of potassium which is fantastic for hangovers. Try this recipe -

250 mls low fat milk

2 bananas

1 tblsp honey

cinnamon

nutmeg

handfull of ice

Throw all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.

* Try to get moving. I find hangovers are so much worse if you give in to them. Go for coffee, do a gentle gym session, clean the house.

* This is a very, very unofficial suggestion because I liken sports drinks to cyanide but if you’re desperate try a blue Powerade. Only blue. And only in emergencies.

Have happy hangovers!

P.S I recently got sent the book Fit, Healthy and Intoxicated by one of my favourite readers and it’s hilarious. A must read for hardened drinkers.

Can I get a consensus? Can you forgive a kiss?

by Carly Jacobs

kiss-29 Image

I watched a DVD recently and the married female lead kissed her ex-boyfriend while on a holiday away from her husband. Then she cried, called her husband to admit her indiscretion, he strung her along for a little while and then forgave her. Cue extravagant gift buying and soppy sentiment swapping.

I thought it was rather interesting how easily all was forgiven. Kissing is such a grey area of being unfaithful and the outcome of such an event can really swing either way. Don’t get me wrong… I only have lips for Mr Smaggle… but what I am saying is that, under some circumstances, a kiss can be an accident. Sex is sex. There’s no two ways about it but a kiss… it’s so open to interpretation.

My question to you is… could you forgive a kiss? Is it worse if it’s an ex-boyfriend? Have you forgiven a kiss? Have you had a sneaky kiss and not told your partner? Do you think kissing counts as cheating?

I can’t WAIT to hear your responses!

Why don’t you…?

by Carly Jacobs

* Sprinkle a little perfume on every letter you send?

* Burn fragrant oils in your home? Make people sigh in satisfaction when they breathe in the scent of Lillies? Jasmine? Geranium?

* Wipe vanilla oil over the walls, bench tops and cupboards in your house? After you’ve finished cleaning? To celebrate a job well done?

* Explore potpurri?

* Burn a lavender candle at bedtime to help you sleep? A few drops of oil on your pillow?

* Choose a base scent such as citrus, rose or vanilla and make this your trademark? Change scents every few years but always have that familiar base?

* Line your wardrobe with scented paper? Make your underwear smell like a florist?
