2011 – What will you do to make this year beautiful?

2011 – What will you do to make this year beautiful?

I love new years resolutions. I truly believe that there is nothing more admirable than the pursuit of self improvement and January is the best time of year to kick start the new you.

In reference to those general stock standard resolutions that everyone seems to make annually, I have to admit that I’m quite the over achiever. Fitness and diet were mastered circa 2002, I’ve been debt free since birth and I’m quite a selfish little poppet so I have never had any problems taking time for myself to learn new things and pursue my interests. So yes, basically I’m perfect but my point is this year, I want my resolutions to be small. Nit picky. Tiny things. I’m such a big picture kind of gal that sometimes I miss the details. This year I’m wrapping a big bow around my life starting with…

Making every gift meaningful

I’m sick of handing over perfunctory little thought-that-counts gifts to my nearest and dearest simply because it’s their birthday and the magical gift buying lepracaun didn’t grace me with his presence on that particular day. This year when I see a perfect gift, I’ll buy it on the spot and mail it to them immediately. It’ll be like Christmas all year round!

Giving more

I’m going to teach jewellery making to people who have to spend long periods of time in hospital. I’m also going to commit to more regular blood giving.

Cooking more

Dinner for me is usually a hurried affair of porridge or frozen fish and vegetables. This year I’m going to cook beautiful meals and enjoy them.

Making more

As they say, a true lady never sits idle. I’m going to spend as little time as possible on the computer and spend more time creating.

Taking a cliche beach holiday with a pool and cocktails.

I’m EXTREMELY bad at relaxing and until recently the thought of laying on a beach for a week doing nothing made me a little twitchy. Right now, I can’t think of anything better.

What about you? What little extra bits and pieces will you add to your year? What will be the frosting on YOUR 2011 cake?

Love

Carly

Regular blood giving is such a brilliant idea! I think I might try and do that more regularly this year.

Just gave blood this morning! I’m actually a real sook and find it quite difficult so I think the resolution means even more.

Your resolution about giving more and teaching people who have long stays in hospital is such a great idea! My grandfather is in and out of hospital at least 2-3 times a month due to various health issues and talking with my grandma (and being there with him myself) you have no idea have much it helps to have something to do while you are there. The mind numbing boredom and repetitiveness can become overwhelming and there is only so many times you can read the 6 year old + mags in the waiting room! Well done Lady! Mwah!

Well, I’m going to pursue and deepen my commitment to veganism. I wasn’t even planning to go vegan but I randomly picked up “Eating Animals” by Jonathan Safran Foer in October last year and simply could not/cannot stomach the thought of animal products, farmed or fished. Since I did that a whole new world opened up and all of these positive changes that I could never will myself to stick to swept over me one after one:

I gave up alcohol/ stopped biting my nails once and for all/ started exercising vigorously again (after a… 6 year break? Crikey)/ started reading, drawing, painting again/ finished a training course I had been procrastinating over for well over a year/ chilled out immensely/ stopped spending money on things I don’t need including clothes and cosmetics/ cut back my coffee consumption to one cup a day/ stopped eating gluten (goodbye bloat)/ cut my own fringe and dyed my hair dark brown/ made some important promises to my husband… It was all effortless. Before everything was such a struggle.

So yep. I’m sticking to veganism, learning to make more and more awesome recipes and I’ll see what other things happen. First year in a long time that I feel excited about a new year.

I’m feeling that way with dairy/soy/rice milk. I just find the right type of milk for for me so I’m thinking about ditching it altogether. Not my natural yogurt though. Can’t live with out it!

I love, love, love your blog! I just found it and it is divine. You’re a heroine! I love your resolutions for 2011 – particularly using your jewellery skill to help others. Has inspired me to use some of the free time I have as a student to volunteer in a local charity shop – not as impressive, I know, but you’ve still encouraged me to do something for someone other than myself! Thank you xxx

I just finalised my NY resolutions and my main one is to not buy anything new this year and to make what I need or source second hand stuff. Will be a challenge, but I’m up for it!
I also have the standard get healthy, spend my time better, be happy, etc….
I like the beading resolution Lady. Very un-selfish of you!
