The Top Ten Blogs of All Time.
by Carly JacobsI cleaned out my Google Reader list yesterday and was having a public sob over the loss of some of my favourite blogs that are now defunct. A follower requested that I do a post about the blogs that I’m currently reading. It’s been a while since I’ve done this so I thought I’d comply.
Here’s my top ten daily reads, based on the follow criteria.
1. They’ve survived both of my RSS culls in past five years.
2. I read them every single time they update.
3. Their quality has never faltered.
4. They post consistently and regularly.
PostSecret (entertainment)
I discovered PostSecret through The Cool Hunter about five years ago and have been hooked ever since. If you’re a total voyeur and gossip this is the site for you. People anonymously send in secrets on postcards and the site owner Frank Warren chooses the best ones and publishes a new batch every Sunday.
DesignSponge (lifestyle)
Perfect people live in DesignSponge. If you want to learn the art of flower drying, read about Italian furniture designers, see beautiful images of DIY table arrangements, learn to bake bread, figure out to pack for a weekend in the country then DesignSponge will have you drooling into your morning coffee.
The Glamourai (fashion)

The Glamourai is one of the few personal style blogs that I still follow. She’s fresh, unpredictable, takes risks but is classically stylish at the same time. Considering her immense success she is also remarkably unprestentious.
BJonesStyle (fashion)
Same deal with BJonesStyle. I started following her years ago at the Vintage Society and I’m still enthralled by her daily outfits. She’s sleek, sophisticated and impeccably groomed. It’s all in the details with this one.
1000 Awesome Things (entertainment)
Created by the amazing Neil Pasricha he started a list of awesome things in 2008 counting down from 1000. Things like sleeping in new bed sheets, Santas with real beards, eating cookies like the Cookie Monster and dogs with jobs. Every time he updates I’m reminded of the little things that make life awesome. (Side note of awesome – Mr Smaggle made the 1000 Awesome Things App you can check it out here.)
Clients from Hell (entertainment)
An absolute must for anyone who freelances. The title says it all. I get a good giggle most days out of this one.
Garance Dore (street style/photography)
Beautiful street photograppy from a classy Parisian. Makes you want to wear preppy little cardigans and ride bikes in old cities without wearing a helmet. She’s also the girlfriend of The Sartorialist. I know this is old news to many of you but I actually heard this from the couple themselves when I met them in Melbourne two years ago. It was single handedly the greatest gossip moment of my life.
emmas designblogg (interior design)
Archives full of the most beautifully decorated and photographed homes in the world. 90% of which are located in Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Naturally. I now have an unhealthy obsession with Scandinavia.
Problogger (blogging)
The daddy of the blogging world. He has a no bullshit approach to teaching people how to monetise their blogs. He also has amazing guest posters who cover more niche topics. Darren (problogger) is also one of the friendliest and kindest professional bloggers that I’ve ever met.
Seth’s Blog (philosophy)
He writes tiny little posts that pack a huge punch. Great for a daily dose of accessible intellect.
Honourable Mentions
These ones garner gleeful hand rubbing when ever they post something new.
Style Bubble, Sea of Ghosts, Sea of Shoes, Fat Mum Slim, Yes and Yes, Already Pretty, Karla’s Closet, Swissmiss, The Cherry Blossom Girl, Kingdom of Style, The Clothes Horse.
Newbies
Not new bloggers but ones I’ve only JUST discovered.
Life and Other Crises, Woogsworld, Styling You and Stuff that I Bought.
That pretty much covers my morning reading!
Please do let me know of any other fabulous blogs that I may not know about. I’m always looking at expanding my Google Reader list.
You can comment or let me know on Twitter or Facebook.
Happy reading… I’m so jealous that some of you will get to read these amazing blogs for the first time.
Love
Carly
