A little peak inside my scrapbooks…

I’m an absolute magazine junky. As you found out from this post, my first job was working in a newsagent. Obviously this is where the obsession started.

Even though I love magazines, I hate piles of them sitting around my house. When my magazine piles get too much, I get crafty. I have four scrapbooks on the go at the moment, as well as several archived ones. My main categories are Jewellery, Fashion/Beauty, Food and Interiors.

Here are a few pages.

I rarely keep a whole magazine unless I’m in it or it’s Frankie, Lula or Fashion Trend. I used to keep Oyster and Russh but then I had a Feng Shui attack and ditched them.

What about you? Do you keep magazine clippings of things that inspire you? Do you keep the whole magazine? Do you read magazines?

I keep a folder full of cutouts for the same purpose, but I like your notebook idea even better! No need to worry about all my clippings falling out and getting lost. Perfect Thanks for the inspiration.

I used to do this when I bought magazines like Dolly and Cosmopolitan back in my early teens. Now I only buy Lula and Frankie so no cutting up for me, I’m holding onto those mags hoping they will be worth a fortune eventually…

When I was living at home with my mom (okay, maybe I was like 25) we would get all sorts of magazines in that we never subscribed to. Everything from Seventeen to Popular Mechanics. I would take all the tabloids (Star, OK Magazine, etc.) and the Seventeens and the Cosmos and the Good Housekeepings (SHUT UP) and go through them and cut pictures out that I loved, or articles or quotes or recipes that I just needed. And I taped them in my journal. Seriously, my last journal has magazine clippings all through the beginning of it and my entire recipe collection is just flimsy magazine printouts. I’d still be doing it if I was still living at home getting all those magazines. I even took them to work with me and did the cutting and trimming there, too.

So…. you’re not alone.

I’ve kept a scrapbook my whole life. I have books filled with cuttings of pictures from Alice in Wonderland and Back to the Future from when I was two. I just throw in anything that catches my fancy, pictures, articles, even single words. There’s no theme or organization, just free-form sticking.

I keep most of my magazines, even once I’ve cut out of them (because my likes and dislikes are always changing). But I am slowly starting to throw the really old ones out. I have two big ring binders for fashion and a scrapbook each of interiors and “misc”, so I can write in notes and sketch. I love ripping out a whole page too, very thrilling!

I used to do this too, it wasn’t any sort of age thing that caused me to stop, I think I just got into a slump and my creativity went temporarily out the window.
I now do the digital equivalent and have folders and folders of inspiration pictures (style, art, hair, interiors etc.) saved on my laptop.
Have you checked out Pinterest? you might love it there. I’d probably keep a Pinterest account too, but I prefer them on the harddrive so that if the internet carks itself for a day, I can still look at them.

i don’t really keep magazines, actually I don’t even buy them any more. I figure if something inspires you, it’s there filed in your brain somewhere and maybe develops more interestingly because you don’t have the original to refer to (maybe).
