How to Give a Gift to The Person Who Has Everything.

How to Give a Gift to The Person Who Has Everything.
Carly Jacobs

I don’t know about you but I always struggle to find gifts for my friends. Not because they are especially hard to buy for but because they are adults with grown-up jobs and if they want/need something they usually just buy it for themselves. As do I. So here’s a handy little list of cute, non-crap, not wasteful gifts for friends who have everything.

A DIY Cookie Jar.

Instructions via Bakerella.

A Pamper Pack

With magazines, scented candles, a block of chocolate and a girly DVD for the ladies. Try a six pack of beer and an X-box game for the fellas.

A Hand made Voucher

For dinner out, a movie date, a gourmet picnic or a fancy afternoon tea.

Printable certificates available here.

A Vintage Postcard Calender Journal

Instructions via Design Sponge

What’s the best gift you’ve ever received? Better yet, what’s the best gift you’ve ever given?

Super cute ideas! I got a DIY cookie jar last Christmas from one of my good friends and loved it – so thoughtful.

Oh my, these are freaking AWESOME ideas. Love the cookie jar – it would probably work with other desserts too, like apple crumble jar or choc mousse jar. Hell yes.

Best gift I received? Probably my empire red KitchenAid mixer from the Manfriend. He got massive brownie points for that one.

Best gift I’ve given is probably the embroidered botanical painting I gave my brother. He is a horticulturalist and massive plant nerd, and his favourite plant is the Boab tree, so I hunted down a vintage botanical drawing of a boab, embroidered it onto fabric, then got the Manfriend to make a frame. My brother totally lost it when I gave it to him. WIN.

I gave someone a fairly mature lemon tree with some lemons on it in a pot, a bottle of really good tequila and some salt.

I love these ideas. Off kilter gifts are so great. Some of the best I’ve ever received are…

…a set of vouchers for physiotherapy sessions with my own physio from a friend who was sick of watching me hurt myself at training

    and

…a birthday cake with a very specific message written on top where a friend got a baker to write ‘Happy Christmas to Everyone’ and got them to cross our Christmas and write Birthday and cross our Everyone and write Maggie. I had spent ages whinging about how my Christmas and birthday gifts were always put together as a kid and how much it had annoyed me. I almost died laughing when that cake was brought out at the restaurant.

I got some beautiful cookie jars and gave them to my friends for a house-warming present – filled with choc-chip cookies! They said that was a great present, but I love the idea of a DIY cookie jar.
