The worst one for me is “If I don’t say so myself” WRONG. You are saying it yourself, and even though you DO say so yourself it is still true.

I’m totally going to start hearing people say that now. Thanks.

Loved it. Not sure if its just English people, but people who say PACIFICALLY, when they mean specifically. I imagine a huge ocean.

Urgh! That drives me bonkers!

love the jc superstar interlude! the worst for me was in new york.. “lemme axe you a question”. no axes please..and i probably dont want you to ask me anything either.
but um.. in the us i think it is a damper. its something that reduces noise or vibrations. like a muffler. but not the scarf type. english is a ridiculous language.

I actually researched the crap out of this before recording and I think the consensus is that both are correct but as ‘damper’ is predominately used as a noun in Australia then ‘dampener’ is more correct here. I think it’s a case of the use of the word changing the meaning.
I’ll will always think someone is putting a bread roll on something when they say ‘damper’. 🙂

I cringe every time I hear someone say “for all intensive purposes.” It’s “for all intents and purposes,” you silly lot. Also, “Feb-u-ary” instead of “Feb-ru-ary” and “en-vi-er-ment” rather than “en-vi-ron-ment.” The letters are there – say them!

OH EM GEE me too!

Apparently in the US we’re supposed to be using “dampener” in the context Carly referred to. I didn’t know, either.
-

It does deem that both can be used but I think ‘make something wet’ (dampener) is a way more effective saying that ‘stop the vibrations of’ (damper).
I think it is actually dampener but that popular use of the phrase has changed it to damper.

Loved it. Always be making the videos.
I was getting myself ready to be corrected, but thankfully, they were none of my
particular mistakes : P-

I’m trying to make it a regular thing! 🙂

I get shit wrong all the time. x

Totally! My pet peeve is when people say “pacifically” instead of ‘specifically’. Or ‘aks’ instead of ‘ask’.
-
Author
I can’t stand aks instead of ask.

Hee!

OMG, love it love it love it. That NZ bit was just too funny for words!
I can’t stand it when people say eC cetera instead of eT cetera. So annoying. Oh, and people who can’t say nuclear properly also piss me off.
Don’t even get me started on crimes vs grammar and punctuation.

I hate it when people say “I could care less” when they mean they don’t give a shit. No. You couldn’t care less. My hands itch to smack people when they say it in front of me.
-
Author
Me too! I’m all ‘So you COULD care less?’
-
-
Oh Carly-la, you are superb!
I hate ado/adieu too, but my most hated mispronunciation is “li-berry”. It’s “libRARy”. A library is not related to strawberries, blackberries or any other kind of berry. Don’t say it like that. But do go visit your local one.
-
Author
Ha! You’re a librarian aren’t you? 🙂

I know a few people that have made the letter R disappear from FRUSTRATING.
FUSSTRATING.
Really?!

I love it! You too.! Not theartrically but reaolly.

They are the best jazz hands i have ever seen!

Hahaha this gem popped up in the related articles of today’s post – love it! Allegedly ‘irregardless’ is a word, but I only know that because I was so pissed off with people saying it that I looked it up. It should definitely be banned.
I had a boss once who used to be so proud of her extensive vocabulary without actually knowing that she was saying one of her most-used words wrong – she really loved to ‘reinterate’ her point! Urrggghhhhhh.
-
it’s “COULDN’T CARE LESS” not “COULD CARE LESS”. If you’re saying you COULD care less then obviously you COULD. CARE. LESS. If you COULDN’T care less that is when YOU DON’T. GIVE. A. SHIT.
-
What about Austray-ya, and ‘pacifically’ instead of specifically – my personal favourites.
-
What about people that say, “Ax” instead of “Ask.”
-
You’re all fabulous. You really just made my day – especially whoever brought up the word “nuclear.”
-
I use pacifically as I can not verbally pronounce specifically without a studda which can be very embarrass….so to skip the whole side show in a meeting etc I use the word pacifically
