What’s The Worst Thing A Friend Has Ever Done To You?

A few weeks ago I met a very-good-friend of a very-good-friend. They hadn’t seen each other for a few years and were catching up, talking about their mutual friends. They kept mentioning this one girl, saying that they used to be friends with her. Want to hear why they are no longer friends with this girl? It was a combination of bat-shit crazy behavior topped off with one of the weirdest blows I’ve ever heard off.

She Photoshopped them to look fat and posted the photos to Facebook.

I can remember reading this article about Facebook sabotage by Zoe Foster a few weeks ago and thinking it was bad enough deliberately posting photos of your friends looking less than amazing but actually PHOTOSHOPPING them to look fat? That’s like all kinds of Single White Female creepy. The friend had the photo on her phone and it’s pretty scary stuff. It’s the Psycho Photoshopper in question looking taut and clear skinned (of which she is neither apparently) and everyone else looking like chubby, ruddy-faced hobbits. Bizarre.

This got me thinking about other bat-shit crazy behavior and I was wondering…

What’s the worst/weirdest thing a friend as ever done to you? The more bizarre and hilarious the better!

I’ll start in the comments…

I had a friend in high school who stole a necklace from a shop and gave to me as a present in front of a whole bunch of our friends. She then told everyone that I stole it. When everyone pointed out to her that they had seen her give it to me and that she was obviously lying she started crying and told everyone she was stressed because she thought she had cancer.

That was a really week in year 8.

When I was 10 I had a friend who told her brother that I’d kicked her in the eye. IN THE EYE. I knew nothing about this until one day I was walking home, and her monstrously large, 15 year old brother and his mate pulled a freaking pocket knife (I’m smirking now, but at the time it was terrifying) on me and started accusing me of being … well, insert a lot of swear words I’d never even heard of at the time … because I’d kicked his sister. IN THE FREAKING EYE.

I go to school the next day and ask her if she told her brother that I’d kicked her in the goddamned eye, and she says ‘yes.’ I ask why she’d say such a thing, and she looks away and says ‘because you did.’ And then tells me how her eye was all bruised and swollen for ‘several weeks’ after I apparently did this.

I just … there were no words. Happily no one except her idiot brother and his thug friend believed this bullshittery.

I had a friend back in grade two who loved that we both had really long hair. Then one day she got a haircut and it was SHORT. So she decided that the next best thing was for me to be the same as her and conspired with another friend to chop my two braids off and flush them DOWN THE TOILET. My mum thought I was a boy when I came home from school that day.

I also had another childhood friend who blew off my wedding because she was going to some 3-person surprise party for her then 1-month old boyfriend. Yep.

one of my best friends from highschool wanted to date my ex-boyfriend. i said that was fine (it was!) but she remained convinced that i still had feelings for him. they started dating the summer after we finished high school. i found out they were together ON FACEBOOK when they announced they were moving in together. i tried to say i was happy for them, but he told me to leave them alone because i was just ruining everything with how “pathetic” i was. when i questioned him about this, he said that i was pathetic and trying to get sympathy by lying about my dad having a brain tumour. my dad died a month later. she told him i was lying and that she had seen my dad and he was fine. they’re still together now. i haven’t spoken to either of them in 4 years.

When I was 8 we all had assignments on sea animals that we had to do. It was common in my class to put a ‘comments’ section at the end of the paper so when classmates read it, they could write something encouraging. My ‘best friend’ and another friend decided to write horrible comments and deface my assignment.

Sometimes I would also get to school in the morning and she would have told all my friends that they weren’t talking to me for the day. I don’t know if it reflects worse on her or them…or me for staying friends with her for so long…

I had a friend who was also travelling to our college besties wedding. She and I were already on rocky ground b/c she never called to say hi or hang out just to complain to me about every 3 months. She called me about 2 weeks before the wedding asking about my dress and saying she hadn’t picked one up yet. Clue number 1.
Then, I drive with my parents to the wedding location and meet up with the bride for rehearsal dinner antics. Everyone is waiting outside for this “friend” to show up and nothing. We think maybe she hit traffic and go to eat, but still no word. We go out for an impromptu bachelor/bachelorette drink fest, and still nothing. We’re all really starting to worry that something has happened at this point but she’s not answering her phone and her husband isn’t answering his.
We arrive back at her house not too late and the bride has an email. The friend’s husband said that she was pregnant (which no one knew about) and had to go into the hospital. So, maybe that was true but who has their husband email their friends who are obviously going to be worried sick about accidents and injuries rather than just placing a quick phone call.
We were all pretty sure especially after I mentioned the no dress call that she just decided not to go and couldn’t be bothered to be honest about it. Seriously, who in the right mind would think wife’s in the hospital, better send an email to everybody. We stopped talking after that. Whenever she called me, I told her I was busy.

Wow. Some shockers here. Have to say this is all reassuring too. Have been having a right load of arse with two friends and thought it was just me. Apparently not! And really, I keep thinking – we are getting too old for this crap now.
Couple of months back I went to stay with 2 friends when some bad news came through – a friend and colleague of mine had been murdered. I jumped on a train straight back home. It was a horrific few weeks. I called, texted, and eventually emailed these 2 friends to tell them what had happened, and how I was feeling. Neither of them responded. They had apparently decided ‘it was a bit too difficult to deal with’ so decided, jointly, not to respond. These are friends I’ve known for 15 years, who I’ve looked after through illnesses, family bereavements, surgery, relationship break-ups, all sorts. Sometimes, it’s not until the shit hits the fan that you really find out who your friends are. People I thought I barely knew, or who were miles away, were the ones who came out strong. And it made me realise – it’s not how long a friendship has gone on for, or how geographically close people are that makes a good friendship – good friends are good friends no matter how long the friendship. or how far away that person is.
Right. That’s enough of homilies. More wine.

I Had a good friend from highschool, and once i had moved out of home and was living in an apartment with some friends she started scheming on one of my housemates and eventually they started seeing each other (sleeping together)-after a few weeks of this she staged an elaborate pregnancy lie which then turned into a fake miscarriage (including a pretend desperate dash to the hospital) this in itself was bizarre, but all this time she had been saying horrible things to my housemates about me and how i hated them etc etc… eventually i couldnt stand to live there anymore and moved in with some other (lovely/not un-hinged) friends..
stupidly i had paid the entire $2500 bond for the apartment-which i then lost due to the house mates i left there trashing the place and dissapearing back to brazil!
…strangly she facebook stalked me last week and left me a message saying ” ïm pregnant!! for real this time! :D
    uuuh….. delete.

Just seperated from a toxic friend a few weeks ago. For FOUR YEARS I put up wIth her calling me fat, CONSTANTLY telling me everything I did wrong, gossiping about me, and I even forgave her for causing my first breakup and telling one of my boyfriends(along with a group of seniors who bullied me) I had herpes(false). I drew the line when I found out she had was (very wildly) making out with my boyfriend of a year even though she already had two boyfriends. On the bright side my true friends were there for me and now everyone at school calls her “crazy Sarah”. she even had a breakdown last week and went ape shit on a teacher. Messed. Up. Chick.
