Airplanes

Every single time I’m on a plane, I just cannot believe what a scientific break through they are. THEY FLY!!! In the air… air borne. Tonnes and tonnes of metal, snacks, drinks and people. FLYING. It’s just extraodinary. It’s been happening for almost 100 years but somehow it’s still just too modern for me. Airplanes. You are AWESOME!

Nature

Trees. How cool are trees? The really, really old ones with knobbly roots that are hundreds of years old? What about butterflys? Butterflys are really just the world showing off right? And seahorses? How magical are they? Don’t even get me started on gems. Emeralds and rubies come from the ground. The earth just grows them. It’s beyond amazing. Nature. You are AWESOME!

Phones

The fact that you can transport your voice to anywhere in the world borders on being unbelievable. The fact that you can carry THE WHOLE INTERNET in your pocket is like brain dynamite. Phones. You are AWESOME.

Pregnancy

One of my close friends is pregnant at the moment and I can’t be normal around her. My brain just keeps chanting ‘She’s growing a human, she’s growing a human, she’s growing a human.’ It’s so distracting. I feel like she should be lying down in a tent being worshipped. She’s literally growing a tiny person. Mind. Blowing. Pregnancy. You are AWESOME.

Film Photography

No matter how many times someone explains it me, I just can’t wrap my head around old fashioned film photos. By exposing light onto the film you get a perfect picture of what you were looking at??? What kind of voodoo magic is this? Film photography. You are AWESOME!

So tell me…

What gives you a little thrill? What everyday things are totally awesome to you?

Oh man this is rad. My friends and I discuss this kind of thing all the time. The stuff I find freaking incredible is:

Eyes – So my retina reflects light which the brain turns into an image, etc etc, but seriously, how good are eyes. Actually, how good is the human body?!

Babies – this morning, my son just heard the Beastie Boys for the first time, tasted watermelon for the first time, and saw a rabbit for the first time. So much newness, so much awesome.

Surgeons – They can operate on your brain via your nose. WHAT!?

I can’t think too much about eyes. They make me sqeemish. But yes to babies! My niece is so rad I can’t handle it and watching her learn all the things! The kid’s a genius. And surgeons! BAH! They just casually cut people open and poke around with their insides. Talk about job pressure. Makes me feel like a tool if I’m stressed because I’m late on a deadline. At least I’m not upto my elbows in some dying man’s chest.

THE INTERNET!!!! Seriously. I can buy my groceries, clothes, go on skype and talk to my grandparents all the way on the other side of the world and be able to actually see them face to face. MAGIC. And I don’t even have to change out of my PJs! Bonus!

CATS! They have this vibrating motor inside them so that when I put my head against their body all I hear is “brrrrrrr brrrrrrr brrrrrrrrrrr”. They have squishy little paws that feel really weird when they touch you. And they smell like babies!

Skype – yes the interweb is cool, but skype just blows my mind. And tricks me into thinking I don’t live on the other side of the country from my family and friends

I’m the same with Facetime! The fact that my niece thinks Uncle Ben lives in the phone is too precious.

I currently live on the other side of the world to all of our family and I am as blown away by Skype as my 75 grandmother is; “I can talk to you as clear as if I were in the same city! And it only costs how much? and it goes through the internets?!” And one of my nieces thinks we live with the ‘Bubble Guppies’ as she watches videos on the tablet. She’s hilariously confused. Poor thing.

I work on set sometimes and when I get to have a radio I think it’s the most magical thing ever. We use walkie talkies, and plug in headsets to them so we can walk around and not interrupt filming. It’s just so cool to respond to something you hear in your ear that no one who doesn’t have a headset knows about. I’m not sure I’m explaining this very well, but it’s freaking magical.

I totally had that when I was on Sunrise! It was so weird. They kept telling me to stop shouting. 🙂

Everytime I’m on a plane (which seems to be a lot lately due to work) I find it exciting.

My dog, I am completely besotted and fascinated by her. She’s like a little live teddy bear and a little too human and yes, animal paws are too cute.

And babies, I’m not a mum yet so I still can’t seem to wrap my head around the fact that people can grow other people inside them. It’s crazy, wonderful and a little magical. Oh and when you can see the baby pushing on the tummy or you can feel their foot… insane and beautiful!

I love flying, I’ve never flown more then around 5 hours in a row, but I just love flying. I don’t know what it is about it.
Oh, and I am SO with you about pregnancy. It is completely amazing and just hard to wrap your head around at times.
And I have to say, mine is probably the internet. I had this moment the other day, where I was talking to my 10 year old nephew about some project he’s doing, and he was talking about looking for information online, and I was sitting thinking “wow, how much easier would assignments be these days, it’s almost like cheating. You don’t have to spend hours at a library or searching through encyclopedias.”.

I wasn’t ever very big into nature until I moved to Denver, Colorado during snow season and started to see an almost constant view of the mountains.
I’m right now in Tucson, Arizona temporarily for my husband’s job and there are mountains that, when you’re standing in the mall parking lot, appear as if they are
across the street. Madness! Crazy, beautiful madness.

How you feel about planes-that’s what I feel everytime I flick a light switch! Just can’t get my head around this electricity magic!
