6 Beauty Products That Will Make You Look Like You Actually Slept Last Night.
Carly Jacobs

As I’m getting older I’m noticing that sleep makes a huge difference to my appearance. Not just over the course of a few restless nights but on a daily basis. When I was teenager, I’d have to party for 48 hours straight to earn myself some under eye bags. Now I’m on the other side of 25, it’s as easy as an extra glass of wine and one post midnight bedtime per week. Here’s a few products I’ve been using recently that I absolutely love. I layer them all up and they form a winning combination on days when I’m feeling less than fresh.

 In order of application…

1. Nivea Sun Light Feel Face Veil SPF 30 (RRP $8)

I had my first facial ever late last year and the beautician asked me how many times a day I apply sunscreen. I said once. She told me to double it. I now carry one of these Nivea face veils everywhere I go and reapply throughout the day. I have one in my bathroom, one in my handbag and one in my car. It’s light, it’s not greasy and it doesn’t mess with my sensitive skin. Perfect on its own or under make-up and it’s really reasonably priced.

2. Dermalogica Age Smart Primer (RRP $55)

This is delicious. It smells like lavender and has that wonderful spackle type effect of all good primers where it fills all the ridges and fine lines in your face. It’s also slightly tinted so it gives you a healthy glow. A tiny bit of this product goes a really long way so it’s really great value for money too. When this tube runs out, I won’t think twice about replacing it.

3. Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream (RRP $55)

I’m a serious Smashbox addict and have been using their primers and foundations for years. When they released their BB creams I was totally stoked. As with most other Smashbox products it’s slightly heavier than your average BB cream but provides extraordinary coverage and a beautiful velvety finish. It also has that yummy Smashbox smell that’s like a combination of My Little Pony toys and Christmas.

4. Garnier BB Cream Roll On Undereye Concealer (out in OZ soon)*

I’m always looking for light under eye concealer and this one was quite the delightful surprise. It’s really refreshing and cooling so it’s perfect for when you’ve been hitting the pub a little too often. It blends really beautifully and it comes in a tiny little purse sized tube so you can carry it around with you all day for touch ups.

5. Maybelline Super Stay 24 Hour Powder (RRP $18)*

I always give my t-zone a quick pat with some kind of pressed powder when I’m all but finished with my make-up. Maybelline sent me this one to try and I’m really loving it. It’s not too dry and cakey like other pressed powder I’ve tried. It just gives a smooth semi-matt finish with out making you look like you slept with your face in the sand. Note: I never put powder on my cheeks or under my eyes. It just feels wrong anywhere other than my t-zone.

6. Benefit Ooh La Lift Eye Brightener (RRP $39)

I always dab a little of this miracle stuff under my eyes and just under my eyebrows, right before I walk out the door. It’s a lovely way to brighten your finished face so you don’t look too ‘done.’

What products are you using at the moment? What’s your number one favourite thing in your make-up bag today?

That Nivea Face Veil sunscreen is one of my all-time favourite beauty products. It’s incredible.
I also adore Benefit’s That Gal. It’s supposed to be used as a brightening primer, but I use it as an illuminator. I will mix a dab of it with my foundation to make me look all glowy or blend a little dot over my cheekbones to pep up my skin.

I love it! I buy a few bottles every time I’m at the chemist.

I am 22 and never wear sunscreen. I’m stupid, I know!!! For years I’ve been choosing sunburn over pimples (sunscreen always makes me break out) but I should probably just choose pimples over wrinkles…ugh.
I think I need to give the Nivea sunscreen a go!

Yes, but how do you reapply half way through the day when you have already put on your complete face? Do you clean it all off and start over? This has always intrigued me

I just put a light coat over my make up! I usually wear just BB cream anyway but I chuck sunscreen over everything and lightly powder if I look to greasy.

I am loving my bobbi brown foundation. Also some bb cream I bought from Korea. Plus YSL under eye illuminator.
    Korean cosmetics are the bomb.
