I woke up today and realised that I’m booked nearly every night this week seeing something fabulous. I thought I’d give you a quick run down of what’s on in Melbourne this week so you don’t miss out! I haven’t actually seen any of these things yet (except Swampy Sundays) but I hate when people write about how fabulous a show was after it’s over and I can’t see it anymore, so here’s what I’m going to be seeing and I’m pretty sure I’m in for a rad week.

Swampy Sundays at The Wilde 

My mate plays every Sunday at the Wilde on Gertrude Street and it gets pretty rowdy. A few Sundays ago this lady jumped on the bar and took off her shirt. I stop by for a quick bevvy most Sundays and it never disappoints. Plus the amazing baked potatoes that come with the Sunday roast are TO DIE FOR. Image

 Cavalia* 

My blogging mates all went to see this in Sydney a few weeks ago and they utterly RAVED about it. I was gutted that I couldn’t make it but the show has come to Melbourne now and I’m off to the preview on Wednesday night. I have a theory that all little girls go through a horse crush phase and the seven-year old in me cannot wait. It’s choreographed by Alain Gauthier who worked with Cirque Du Soleil so I’m sure it’s going to be fabulous. Image

Melbourne International Film Festival 

On from July 25th to 11th August there’s something happening every single night. I’m off to see Moon Indigo tonight but if that’s not your cup of tea there’s something that will delight you, I promise. Just check out the program.  Image

Mockingbird Theatre’s Equus 

Peter Shaffer’s Equus is my favourite play. I first saw it when I was about 15 and it was the first non-musical stage production that I ever saw. I jump at every opportunity to see it so I’m stoked that it’s being put on in Melbourne this year. It also has one of my actor mates from Canberra in it so that’s a double bonus. I’m taking advantage of their cheap Tuesday $20 tickets.  Theatre can be prohibitively expensive so I always support companies when they have discount evenings because it’s bloody good of them to do it and $20 for a live show is a super bargain. (Side note: If you did go through a horse crush phase you may find this show a touch upsetting. Just saying.) Image

Penny Plain* 

A little while ago I was invited to a really weird but awesome event at The Melbourne Arts Centre called Raggamuffin Sushi, where a famous chef taught a sushi masterclass to the sounds of a reggae DJ. It was extremely cool. The same PR lass has invited me along to a marionette theatre show called Penny Plain by master puppeteer Ronnie Burkett. It sounds beautiful, an end-of-days tale from the ‘eyes’ of a blind woman. I’m totally fascinated by puppets. Philippe Genty is one my favourite performance artists so I never turn down the opportunity to see a puppet show. Image
