How to Get Dressed When You Have No Effing Idea What The Weather Is Doing.

How to Get Dressed When You Have No Effing Idea What The Weather Is Doing.
Carly Jacobs

I’m a Melbourne gal so I’m more than used to being slightly uncomfortable when it comes to temperature. Most of the time actually. I’ll be freezing cold so I’ll rug up and then the sun will come out so I’ll strip off. Then I get rained on. Then it gets windy. The list goes on. I always struggle towards the end of winter so I’ve come with a little system of coping when the weather goes a bit crazy.

Dress In Very Sheer Layers

The sun was shining brightly when I left the house early this morning so I wore thin tights, a light linen top and a very sheer cardigan. Still warm enough to stop the minor morning chill but cool enough so I didn’t melt when the sun came out. It’s all about the thin layers.

Work On The Assumption That You’re Going To Ditch Your Tights

On some Melbourne days you can wake up and it’s 5 degrees and by the afternoon it’s pushing 21 degrees and you end up wishing you were wearing a little summer frock. When the weather starts doing this I always make sure I’m comfortable enough in my dress that I can ditch my tights if it gets a little too warm and not be concerned that passers by can snatch a glance at my tight-less upper thighs and hoo-ha on the street.

Scarves Are Key

I always have a scarf packed in my bag. They’re perfect to throw around your neck, wrap around your shoulders when you get a little chilly or to cover your hair do when it inevitably starts to rain.

This outfit was worn for a slow wander around the streets with  Mr Smaggle, cooking gluten free hotdogs complete with tomato sauce and mustard, watching too many episodes of Orange is the New Black and drinking wine and skyping with my girl in NZ.

How was your weekend? What did you get up to?

  1. Love your outfit, but if it was 21 degrees in Brisbane, I’ll be leaving the tights on and adding a winter coat. We aren’t too brave with the cold.

Love this Smags … I’d be worried about removing my tights and finding the forest that has taken up residence on my legs!

Don’t even talk to me about that. It’s like I just forgot that hair removal is a thing.

Yes thin layers! This is something I have only just figured out too! In Brisbane we are at the stage where the mornings are freezing and the days are hot so I have been wearing two thin cardigans and tights. This way when I ditch the layers at lunch time I can just pop them in my handbag instead of lugging around my coat all day.
