Michelle Bridges 12WBT – Week One Results.
Carly Jacobs

On Monday I started the Michelle Bridges 12 Week Body Transformation and when I signed up a few weeks ago you crazy cats went mental on Facebook saying that you wanted weekly updates. Well here’s the first one! Each week I’ll run through the yays and nays of the week, do a quick breakdown of the week and then share my progress.

Yays

It’s only been five days so far but I feel pretty bloody good. I haven’t been hungry at all which is excellent and I haven’t even so much as sniffed a glass of wine or a piece of chocolate. Going strong. I’m really enjoying the cooking and I haven’t had to go anywhere near the shops all week after doing a major haul on Sunday. Huge time saver. All the meals are designed for two people and Mr Smags is loving the food too. Bonza.

Nays

The workouts. I usually exercise about 3 to 4 times per week anyway but I’m finding 6 days per week and a full hour a day a real struggle. Not because I’m lazy but because I’m really busy. Genuinely busy. For instance on Tuesday I had five deadlines and several meetings so I woke up at 7am, left the house and didn’t get back until 9pm when I quickly jogged on the treadmill before heading back to my laptop to finish a few articles. My main aim is to prioritise sleep and workouts, which has always been an issue because my lifestyle is so erratic. I’m working on it.

Week Breakdown

Monday – perfect on both food and exercise.

Tuesday – perfect on food but had to skip workout for a last minute deadline. Did 30 minutes jog on treadmill instead.

Wednesday – swapped snacks for skim cappuccinos (same calories) and did proper workout.

Thursday – perfect on food (although I tried a sugar free rice crispy treat for about 60 calories. No biggie.) but had to skip workout again. Did 30 minutes jog on treadmill instead.

Friday – perfect on food and exercise.

Starting Measurements

Chest – 102 cm

Waist – 98 cm

Hips – 113 cm

Photos Week 1

I took some totally unflattering and completely derpy before photos so I can visually track my progress. These were taken on Monday 11th November 2013.

Weight Loss To Date – 2kgs

Technically my first weigh in is next Wednesday but I’ve already shed 2kgs in the first 5 days. I wouldn’t get too excited though, nor would I expect that of anyone else if they did five days of the program. My weight has always been very shifty and I’ve been known to fluctuate by up to 3kgs in one week so I’m not exactly celebrating yet.

Weight Loss

Goal – 12kgs

Lost – 2kgs

Left to go – 10kgs

So there you go! Any questions?

Hi Carly, thank you for doing this. You have inspired me to also sign up for the 12wbt, and I have really appreciated your no bullshit series.

Um… just a smidge under 5’8 so around 173ish cm?? I’m pretty tall.

Love this summary and congrats on making it through your first week! Would love to know roughly how expensive you are finding the food side of things. Are the meals easy to prepare?

I’m generally one major shop a week between $150 to $200 for 2 people which is fairly standard for us. I’ve saved money on alcohol and dinners out thought so that’s a bonus! I’m spending more time in the kitchen than usual but I’m actually quite enjoying it. Food prep is taking about an hour all up everyday.

Don’t feel too bad about not getting the exercise perfect – weightloss is 80% food, 20% exercise, so personally, I think your normal routine of 3 to 4 workouts a week is fine. If you were to continue on that track and stick to the 12wbt food plan, you’d find that you’ll drop weight.

I’ve got such mixed feelings about 12wbt, it’s definitely not for everyone [it wasn’t for me] and I think the focus on such a high amount of exercise, makes some people struggle to stay motivated – as you’ve found out, not everyone has an hour a day, 6 days a week, to be able to commit to exercise and some just find the amount MB pushes you to do for the program, simply overwhelming and so the wagon starts to wobble a bit.

Good luck and I hope you get the results you’re hoping for!

Totally! The exercise is MASSIVE! I’m trying really hard to stick to it but I’m not going to beat myself up if I work out 4 days instead of 6! And I’ve always lost more weight in the past focussing on food rather than fitness.

Awesome stuff 🙂 and extra high five for sharing measurements etc too. Not always easy for we womenfolk to be that upfront but its a great way to really measure progress. Thank you for sharing with us!

I thought it was important for people to see the proper progress. I didn’t want to share my weight because weight is so subjective and I don’t want people to make assumptions about how people should look at a certain weight. I think measurements are a much better tracker.

So true. When I was eating really well and exercising a few times a week, my weight didn’t really change but I dropped cms all over (except my upper arms, bloody pests!)

This is great. I love how honest and open you are, it’s encouraging. I took my measurements as well and want to share them too as a sort of public accountability thing (hope that’s alright). I’m not doing the 12WBT, but I am doing my own thing and I think it will definitely help my progress if I see these posts and follow along.

My measurements are Chest: 109, Waist: 96, Hips: 116, Thigh: 71, and Arm: 35. It’s
hard to see change in the mirror so I think the measurements will help a lot.

Before you said anything about you looking derpy in the pictures, I was thinking “she looks like an adorable badass in that workout outfit”.

Of course my love! Go for it! That’s what this is all about! You know what love? I reckon we could probably share a wardrobe with those measurements! x

Thanks! I think it will really encourage me.

Just saw you post your height down below, that’s how tall I am too haha. I bags borrowing that kickass snake t-shirt!
