About a week ago, I finished the Michelle Bridges 12WBT.Β I actually really enjoyed it and I’ve seen some pretty decent results.

I kind of wish I had taken one of those pasty before shots in my underwear holding the newspaper.Β Then I could have followed it up with a picture of my clenched tandoori coloured, g-stringed butt cheeks whilst wearing stripper heels, but alas I lacked the foresight. Anyway I’ve lost 30cms in 12 weeks. Pretty stoked about that.

Total Weight Loss

About 5 kgs all up which really doesn’t seem like much but I’m SO GLAD I took photos and measurements otherwise I’d be pissed. I’d much rather see a major loss of centimetres than anything else… and I can really see improvements in those photos. Bonza.

Was it hard?

Not really. My biggest struggle was alcohol because even 1 glass of wine will tip you 200 calories over your daily budget and I like quite a bit more than 1 glass of wine. If I had an event or a birthday party or something, I’d have a healthy dinner and pre-burn my alcohol calories. I also never wasted calories on anything else, in the first 5 weeks at least. No chocolate, no ice cream. I kept my eye on the prize… red, red wii-iii-iiine… stay close to meee-ee-eee. I’d argue that no one can be perfect for 12 weeks, so make sure you choose your sin wisely and stick to it. If someone offered me a Tim Tam at school I’d be all ‘BITCH I’M HAVING WINE TONIGHT!!!!’. It’s all about the planning.

Did you stick to it 100%?

I stuck to the food 100% in the first five weeks, then Christmas and summer happened so it was difficult. I was about 90% perfect over summer but I was just happy to maintain during the silly season. I was almost 100% perfect on exercise the entire time and I’m so proud of that. I exercised on average 6 days per week for 12 weeks and I think that’s where my results came from. I actually didn’t follow Michelle’s exercise plan – I did 3 Barre classes per week and 3 1 hour interval cardio sessions on the treadmill per week with one rest day. It’s just what works into my schedule and what I enjoy. It was 1 hour, high intensity exercise, 6 times a week and I’m still doing it.Β It means I can have a few dinners out and some drinks on the weekend without totally letting myself get out of control.

Would you do it again?

Absolutely! I’d like to try it again in the middle of the year when I’m in a routine and more disciplined. I think I could smash a higher kg loss at a different time of year. Although losing 5kgs over Christmas is unheard of so I’d say the whole thing was a major victory.Β

Any questions?

Oh also I’m looking at trying a different kind of eating plan because I really loved being held accountable on the blog so if you can recommend one or want me to guinea pig one for you, let me know!

Thank for that compliment! I’ve spent much of the last 12 weeks doing tiny weight lifts with them so I’m glad you see results!

I’ve just finished the Whole30 programme, which was a 30-day challenge – there’s a LOT you cannot eat (or drink) but it’s only for 30 days. It turned out to be much easier than I was expecting; after the first week it was pretty much plain sailing – so much so, that I’ve continued on with it and I’m now on Day 43. Based on Paleo. Have a look: http://whole30.com/whole30-program-rules/

That’s hardcore! I started it once but then stopped because I missed smoothies so much!

Well done sticking with the program over chrissie and NY. You must be feeling fantastic. I am trying to choose more nutritious food, and eat more mindfully (ie not just shovel stuff in while walking along). https://www.facebook.com/SugarFreeMum?fref=ts has great recipes both treats and proper meals. I’m doing the February 28 day program stage one and it’s only $20. It is sugar free, dairy free and mostly grain free. Which sounds joy free, but the meal recipes are great – even the kids eat most of them. I am finding the lack of carbs too tough I just use the program as guideline, not a religion, and I have some sour dough toast with my salad for lunch because that is what I need to get through the afternoon without gnawing my arm off.

I really struggle with sugar free because I love smoothies and fruit! Also I agree, carbs arn’t the enemy. A piece of toast with a salad for lunch never hurt anyone.

Great results, and you should take full credit for sticking to it so well, especially over Christmas. I love having a guide to follow and staying accountable is certainly a big winner.

Great work Carly, I started 12WBT nearly 2 years ago, I had to stop for personal reasons, but love the program, so easy to follow. I can imagine your fitness has improved with the program.

Losing 5kg over the Christmas period is a huge achievement! I put on 5kg over Christmas so I must have got them from you, cheers.
I really love how the 12wbt makes you take measurements, it really helps you see the difference. Well done! I would have appreciated a clenched tandoori butt pic though. Just sayin’.

I’m so tempted to do it for next time! So many requests! I’m stoked that I didn’t balloon over chrissy as I normaly do!

I’m with you on the photo taking + measuring route. 5kg loss is great, it’s super great over Christmas, but I feel like you look like you lost more than that in your photos. I’m pretty sure your feet are closer together in the after back angle photo and you’re clearly acquiring a box gap.

You’re looking awesome, so inspiring! I’m loving my new treadmill, I started watching Scandal when I got it and there’s plenty of attractive people and engrossing story lines to have me not notice as much that I’m working out.

Well done! How brilliantly you have done to 1. start and 2. finish the programme. It’s great you did the measurements too. Even when I work really hard I see little results on the scales but it is all in the cms which can be just as gratifying. You look great and have obviously kept yourself well and healthy. Go you!

Yes! And also doing heaps of Barre classes, it’s reminded my body of what good posture I used to have!

      • Tahlia Meredith 10 years ago

Ah yes, I’m quite intrigued by those! I was looking into yoga and Barre looks a bit more challenging without being much more expensive. Having a gammy hip/back situation but once that’s sorted I think I’ll try out a class or two πŸ™‚

Have you seen Bikini Body Mommy? She does a 90 day challenge on YouTube and she does the corresponding meal plans for like $10 a month. Her results are amazing and the workouts are quick to do..
