Don’t get me wrong, I love to dress up, wear high heels and spend an hour applying a face full of slap. All that jazz. If I’m feeling particularly masochistic, I might even put false eyelashes on… because nothing says glamour like sticking polyester pubes to your eyelids. Most of the time I enjoy the ceremony of getting ready. Listening to some music, strapping myself into my Spanx and deciding at the last-minute that it’s the perfect time to experiment with winged tipped eyeliner. It’s an equally enjoyable and frustrating experience that usually ends up in a fairly high level of discomfort, which I ordinarily have quite a high tolerance for. There are just some days though when I want to be comfortable and the thought of taking off my every-day-undies and replacing them with slinky-dress-undies makes me very sad. It’s on occasions like these that I turn to my favourite comfies.

Embrace Jersey

If I’m feeling like I couldn’t be bothered getting dressed up, I always avoid zippers. A dress you can pull over your head is perfect for days like that. We all know I’m a massive fan of Metalicus but I also like Mesop and Zhai. They’re all brands that have nailed decent designs in stretch clothing. I’m a big fan of anything wrap too, as it can give your outfit a bit of structure without jeopardising that yoga pant comfort.

Wear Casual Heels

A casual pair of low heels can make a very ordinary outfit look a lot more polished. I’m partial to a clog but I know they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea so you could try heeled ankle boots or low wedges. Don’t be pulling out your six-inch heels… it totally defeats the purpose of the whole comfort vibe we’ve got going here.

Accessorize

Accessories are a gold mine when it comes to dressing up a comfortable outfit. A few bangles and some statement earrings will really raise the stock market on a simple ensemble, so go nuts. Why not?

This outfit was worn for an afternoon of writing and then out for a walk and a delicious Korean dinner with Mr Smags to celebrate our 8th anniversary. It was a delightful day.

What’s your favourite go to outfit for when you just aren’t feeling it?

  1. Happy Anniversary! You look seriously fab in that outfit.
You are literally the eleventy billionth chic person to say they love Metalicus, so I really need to get my (ample) arse in there and stock up!
My current go-to outfit consists of faux leather leggings from Sussan (hello elasticised waist and stretch but with oodles of sex appeal), loose linen black t-shirt from Zara, leopard print blazer (ponte fabric, again with stretch and sex) and black peeptoe wedges. Easy, comfy and cool!

You really do! It’s such a great store. I stick to the dark colours though.. the light colours tend to show all the lumps and bumps!

    Happy anniversary!
Like you, I adore wearing something that wraps around in a slinky fabric like jersey. It’s so comfortable to wear but looks much classier than most other comfortable options.
My new favourite wardrobe addition has been a pair of satin harem pants. They’re super comfy and can be easily dressed up with a cute camisole and platforms or bedazzled sandals for nighttime. Easily the best purchase I’ve made in a while!

Oh they sound great! Where from?

From Target. I paid $40 but they’re now on clearance for $7. I’m not even mad because I’ve definitely gotten value for money out of them.
