What’s your must-watch movie to pick you back up again?

P.S If you’ve had a rough day, I demand that you clear your schedule and see to it that you watch a feel good movie. Put the kids to bed early, cancel your dinner plans, skip the gym. That’s an order.

Galaxy Quest. Perfect for Friday nights when you just don’t want to have to think. Anyone who likes Sci Fi , particularly Star Trek, is going to find this funny. Stars Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver and Alan Rickman. Quote to remember “”By Grabthar’s hammer, by the suns of Warvan, you shall be avenged!”

I’ve never seen it! I’ll have to add it to the list!

GalaxyQuest starts a bit slow. But a bit like Zoolander, once you “get it”, its hilarious!

Reality Bites, for sure. Too many quotes to choose from but if I had to choose just one then it would be ‘what is your glitch, man’. I watch it when I’m feeling nostalgic for the seemingly simpler days of the 90s with no responsibilities or cares. Sigh.

I like ‘I’m bursting with fruit flavour.’

The Princess Bride. So glad my kids are old enough to watch it with me now. They enact all the swordfights and funny bits throughout. Highly entertaining 🙂

I didn’t grow up with the Princess Bride so it’s not really my thing. It’s very strange watching it as an adult and not really getting it.

I’m not much one for movies, but if I’m pressured I’ll go with anything in the Pirates of the Carribean franchise or perhaps one of the Iron Man movies. TV is my true escapism. On a bad day where I don’t want to think I’ll marathon Coupling. Or Sports Night. Or 30 Rock. I try to stick to comedies on the bad days.

      GASP! Ace Ventura! Good one.

Love Actually and Bridget, oh yeh!! I have a dodge pirated copy of Bridget Jones which hilariously must include a deleted scene. Do you remember the bit where Bridget’s mum is on the phone talking to Bridget about how she regrets leaving her husband for the other man? And it turns to him and he’s berating the make up assistant? In my version he turns to her and says “Ugh you ham-fisted c*nt” Which I’m sure isn’t in the official version! Cracks me up every time.
In terms of others, I love Mean Girls! Definitely a go to for a cheer up. So quotable. You go glen coco!
Also Anchorman. It took me a few watches to fall in love with this movie, but now I can’t turn back.

Hilarious! I’ve never seen that bit but now I so want to! I’m not quite on the Anchorman train yet. I’ve tried but it hasn’t gelled. I do love ‘I love lamp!’ and ‘yogging!’

Oh yes to Bridget (was on free to air last weekend!) and Love Actually (not just for Christmas). Haven’t watched Zoolander in ages but must do so. Mean Girls is one for me too … Mr SY would say Top Gun. x

I LOVE Top Gun! Take my breath away is the fake ‘song’ that Mr Smaggle an I have. It’s my ring tone for when he calls me.

As soon as I saw this headline I was like “ZOOLANDER!” Best. Movie. Ever.

Zoolander was first up. ‘The was this moment last night when she was sandwiched bewteen the Maori tribesman and the Finnish dwarf, when I thought, I could really see myself spending the rest of my life with this girl!’

Just about impossible to track down, but The Reluctant Widow (old b&w which bears only slight resemblance to the novel), Quartet, Guys and Dolls, Rocky Horror Picture Show and Luc Besson’s Atlantis. But also any DVD of Queen, AC/DC, Japanese drums or just, um, men in kilts playing pipes (mostly found on youtube).

Oh I love ‘Enough, enough now.’. Totally adding the Wedding Singer to my list.

  12. I love re-watching movies. I have a soft spot for the original Willy Wonka movie (“So shines a good deed in a weary world”) and Mean Girls is another fave (SO many quotes but I love “Is butter a carb?”). Jim’s also a fan of The Princess Bride (“incontheivable!”)

  18. Sydney Davis 10 years ago

Yes! Yes to all! I somehow have myself convinced that I don’t actually like Love Actually but then I watch it begrudgingly and it’s just so wonderful! And the Hugh Grant dance scene. I could watch The Royal Tenennbaums every day, it’s so funny and the characters are just delightful.

Every time I watch a Wes Anderson film, I just want to wear smoky eyeliner and kiss impossibly nerdy boys.

Princess Bride, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Goonies and early Sex and the City. Oh my god I love that show. And all those above too – Empire Records and Bridget are spot on!

Me and the kids do like a bit of Mary Poppins……we all get up and dance in the chimney sweep bits.

Mary Poppins was never really on my radar as a kid, same with Princess Bride. Other people love them though!
