Last weekend I went to Sydney super quickly to go to my cousin’s wedding. It was spectacular. She’s Lebanese so instead of politely walking into the reception with her new husband, they came bounding in with a drummer and we all danced like maniacs for 20 minutes before we sat down for entrees and speeches. It was rad. The only thing better than the constant and ferocious dancing was the little jar of Nutella I got as a guest gift and the ridiculously beautiful view from the Watson’s Bay Hotel. Gold star on the wedding cuz, well done.
I always struggle with what to wear to weddings because I love black but it always feels so clunky and morbid at weddings. I spied this number on my aunty at another wedding and mentally stored it away for future borrowing.
Dress by Princess Charlotte from Charlie Brown * Shoes by Pedro Lourenco for Melissa * Earrings from Bouvier * Bangles from Dinosaur Designs * Silver jewellery from India, Thailand and Vietnam
What to wear to a wedding
Do…
* Wear something comfortable. You don’t want to spend the night pulling Spanx out for your butt crack.
* Get over yourself. No one cares if you aren’t wearing six inch stilettos and no one cares if you kick them off and slip on your emergency dancing thongs.
* Think about the weather. If the wedding is near water, chances are it’s going to get a touch chilly at some point so make sure you pack some pasties if you’re prone to a bit of stiff nip.
Don’t…
* Wear anything too tight, too short or too revealing. Rule of thumb, if you’ve worn it to a nightclub in Bali, it’s not wedding appropriate.
* Even think about wearing jeans. People get all confused about wedding dress codes but most dress codes are ‘Don’t show up looking like a homeless farmer and we’ll cut you if you look better than the bride.’ Easy.
* Wear white, cream, ivory or anything that screams virgin bride. Finding an actual virgin bride these days would be rather difficult I imagine but that’s beside the point. It’s the brides day so wear your favourite white dress some other day.
What did you wear to the last wedding you went to? Any awesome wedding wardrobe malfuntion stories to share?

I wore the same dress as the bridesmaids to a girlfriends wedding……. Awkward!

Oh no! That’s hilarious. I love it. I wonder how common that is?

last wedding I went to I wore a white dress…! oh wait, it was my wedding. never mind. last one before that I wore a lilac coloured silk dress, I’m all about pretty colours at weddings. and comfy shoes. that wedding was at a lookout in the blue mountains at sunset so as soon as the sun was gone, I was absolutely freezing. so I’d also recommend a big warm scarf or something that can crumple up really small in your bag.

I try to do that too, wear something colourful or at least something patterned. And major yes to a scarf or something to wrap around you. I almost froze at a wedding last March!

It’s a while back, but black underdress with mesh slip over (two layers, one green, one red, pick which one you want on the outside), black belt, fishnets and ankle boots.

That sounds rad.

Pasties, spanx and six inch stilettos. At least the pasties weren’t white or cream – that would just be tacky. Rachel x

Ha! I wore practically the same thing! I always wear giant heels but I’m quite comfortable in them, but I can tell lots of women aren’t so I always encourage sensible heels or dancing flats!

I was up the duff and I wore a black wrap dress. Big accessories admittedly but I felt slightly controversial! Then there was a chick wearing a crop top so I didn’t feel so conspicuous.

See it’s the crop top stuff that I’m talking about. I just don’t think that baring midriff is necessary at a wedding. 🙂

I’m going to a wedding this weekend and am tossing up between these 2 little numbers: http://www.jacquie.com.au/shop/en/jacquie/jada-gold-jacquard-dress-517834 or http://www.target.com.au/p/animal-print-faux-wrap-dress/55509534 (more brown in the print than it appears in the pic), both of which are currently hanging in my wardrobe. Nude/beige shoes and hose and neutral/animal print wrap in case it gets cool.
Prior to this one, the last wedding I went to was a cousin’s and I wore a black wrap dress and metallic heels. My family all know and understand my penchant for black and no one lifted an eyebrow 😉-

I like the jacqui E one! Also I’ve got heaps of dresses from jacqui e and they wear really well and the fabric is stiff and gives you a beautiful line. Highly recommend. I don’t think there’s anything perticularly wrong with wearing black, I just try to avoid it because I wear it all the time!

My best ever wedding story which is only half about attire is when one of my oldest friends attended a fairly upper crust wedding in the UK. After several glasses of their best red, she proceeded to educate the British dance floor on the merits of the worm. Yes. She lay on the dance floor and performed the worm, all the while forgetting she was wearing a non worm friendly g string under her cocktail frock. Met her husband that night too. Who says inappropriate wedding attire isn’t without it’s merits?

AH! I love this! I think seeing a chick’s g-string after the doing the worm would MAKE a wedding for me!

I wore a simple wrap dress in a lovely cobalty colour, and nude wedges that were comfy and very all-terrain friendly (nothing worse than sinking into the grass!). I did have a bit of a wardrobe malfunction though! Late in the night I appeared in a series of photos where my entire black bra clad boob was visible! And somehow no one taking the photos/starring in the photos seemed to notice. Awwwwkward…

Nude is the best shoe colour… so elongating! Ah! I love a wedding outfit malfunction. My favourite.

The last wedding I went to was mine. And I wore jeans 🙂

I’m going to a friend’s wedding in Europe in July. I’ve had a bitch of a time finding a dress. I thought I might get lucky in the end of summer sales but nope. I have very little space in my carry on bag so was really restricted + didn’t love anything I found in shops. I really didn’t want to wear black but I’ve ended up settling for a black dress I already own.

I’m going to a mid-winter snowy-mountain wedding this weekend, and I’m wearing a magenta a-line dress with a little leather-look panel along the bottom, with black tights and boots. And a fascinator-type thing I made myself. Rather looking forward to it! (Not only because I intend to knock the socks off a silly boy hehe)
