Weekly Style Report: Ankle Boots, Layers and Monochrome

Weekly Style Report: Ankle Boots, Layers and Monochrome
Carly Jacobs
I

spent most of last week at the Gold Coast at a conference without my camera (doofus!) so I’ve got a few out and about Melbourne outfits and none from my trip. I wore the same shoes every day though so I promise you didn’t miss much… except a major wardrobe malfunction when the zip broke on my dress exposing my sexy skin coloured slip underneath. SO hot right now. I then ran upstairs to my room to change and I stacked it and ate shit in the hallway and there WAS NO ONE THERE TO SEE IT! My skirt went right up over my head, I was legs and tits akimbo and not a soul was there to witness it. What a colossal waste. It was hilarious.

Skirt from Witchery (they don’t have this exact one anymore but it’s a signature style that they do a new version of every now and then – they have it in black and a speckled pattern this year)

Tunic from Religion Clothing in Bali

Wrap cardigan from Zhai in Singapore

Boots from Merchant in Melbourne

The scarf was a gift from my lovely friend Na – it has the names of cities written on it

Outfit worn for:

A walk to get a coffee where I met my barista’s puppy Dexter (follow @smaggle on instagram to meet my puppy friends in my #smagglestreetdogs series), smashing through a huge chunk of a massive freelance project, checking out a potential freelance office space (Squee!!! No more working from my lounge room!) and drinking tea on the couch while watching South Park.

 Dress from Birdsnest

Boots from Merchant in Melbourne (they have similar ones on sale now actually)

Outfit worn for:

A stroll around Fitzroy, some grocery shopping, catching up on all my unpacking and washing and playing a few extremely intense games of Mario Kart with Mr Smaggle.

This week the weather finally turned so I’ve been all about coffees in the sun. I’ve been able to pull out my blazers and ankle-length pants, instead of coats and jeans. Yay! It’s not warm enough to go without tights yet.

To celebrate winning a HUGE contract for my business, I bought this dress and I can’t wait for it to arrive! http://www.asos.com//Warehouse/Warehouse-Textured-Bird-Print-Dress/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=4508212

    Love your Witchery skirt!

I know! I was so close to ditching my tights on the weekend but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it! I think celebratory clothing purchases are brilliant and that dress is gorgeous… I was tempted for a moment but I suspect it would be too short on me.

It arrived! It is pretty short, but I think it’s okay with tights. I did think it would be a little bit longer on me as I’m shorter than the model, but oh well! It’s gorgeous, will be perfect for spring/summer.

My sister gave me her black mid heel Prada Mary Janes fifteen years ago and I wear them on special fancy occasions which makes me happy and her happy and they are sooooo stylish. Never in a million years could I afford such shoes but her feet somehow got bigger and I am thankful for that. She was earning so much money back then when she bought them, it was inconsequential to give them away! I loved the gesture as I was home with babies.
I have reheeled and resoled them three times, had the little buckle re-sewn and I diligently and lovingly polish them.

Oh my gosh I absolutely love that story. How gorgeous. Even more special because they were previously loved by your sister. I also love that you’ve clearly worn then so much that they need re-soling! Gorgeous.

  4. You looked great at PB and I can’t see any old woman filter on these shots!!

Ha! Funny you should mention that Mr Smaggle has started using a weird light reflector thingy because he’s worried he’s been making me look ‘old’ in my photos. 🙂 And thank you – it was so lovely to meet you! Just be careful with that ugly filter of yours.

It’s so comfy – it’s fully stretchy and it was a total bargain too!

Remembered you lamenting being unable to obtain proper Spice girl shoes. Well prepare yo’self- these are a truly hideous mix of spice girl in a blender with Rainbow Brite. So fkn terrible. Designer was on some fine acid at the time me thinks…..

OH MY GOD!!! I have never simultaneously hated yet wanted to buy something so badly in my entire life. My day has been made. I just need a leopard print body con dress, some eye glitter and hair horns and I’m GOOD TO GO!

Alas, my favourite boots are completely dead and need to be chucked, and I have not been able to find another pair that I like. To be honest, I pretty much exclusively buy my shoes at Ziera these days, because they’re just so damn comfortable, which makes the cost per wear really low.

But now I’ll have to check out Merchant and see what they have!
