How To Wear A Summer Dress in Spring

How To Wear A Summer Dress in Spring
Carly Jacobs
I

think we can all safely say that thin cotton dresses aren’t exactly spring appropriate but then heavier wool and knit dresses don’t really work either. It’s time to warm up those summer dresses and make them trans-seasonal – also I have a whole bunch of new floaty summer dresses and I just can’t be arsed waiting until it’s 35 degrees to wear them. I live in Melbourne… it’s unlikely I’ll see 35 degrees until 2015.

 Wearing

Dress from Boom Shankar (gifted)

Tights from Big W

Swedish Hasbeens from Amazon

Wrap cardigan from Supre tied with a waist tie from Metalicus

Rings and earrings from India, Singapore, Thailand and Bali

Necklace from Poppy Smaggle

OCC Lip Tar in Pretty Boy (the second the weather warms up even a little bit, I go hard core on the bright pink lip tar)

Worn For

A day in my office working purely on Smaggle (I rarely get a full day to work on my own stuff and it was bloody pleasant!), a walk to my favourite cafe, lugging shelves up the stairs and scraping 90% of the skin off the back of my hand and a freak out that Jakey The Three Legged Office Cat was having a fit. It turns out he just meowing weirdly out the window and shaking for no apparent reason. He’s fine. The weirdo.

Style Notes On How To Wear A Summer Dress On A Chilly Day

* Add a crop, wrap cardigan. You can take it off when you’re hot and pop it back on when you get chilly.

* Wear lighter denier tights – thick wool tights will look too heavy and are most likely a bit too serious for spring.

* Wear something a bit snuggly underneath – I’m wearing a cotton fit Nancy Ganz slip and I was the perfect temperature all day.

What are you wearing today? Something trans-seasonal?

You should totally do it – it’s perfect for days when the weather is being really too.

I am already in full on summer frock mode. We don’t seem to ease into summer via spring. One minute it’s winter cold, then it’s summer. I don’t get much wear out of my pretty lightweight cardies. Looking very smart mrs Smaggle – black and white is always a winning combination. Xx

Thank you love! Black and white is my favourite combo, I wear it all the time!

I am a proud member of Team Cardy. I’ve got a little white lacy short-sleeved number that’s coming out with me today – I like to call it vintage but it’s just from a country op shop 🙂

Another trick I like is footless tights with sandals. My feet can get too hot in full tights, but a footless tight gives me decent ventilation and draws attention to my ankles, which are very nice ankles if I do say so myself, and the sandal lets me show off my toenail polish, which is excellent fun unless I’ve forgotten to redo it.

(I’ve already seen 43 degrees this season, on the mid north coast. In October! I hate summer! Give me a Canberra winter any day)

I do enjoy a footless tight! Good call. I like ankle length ones because I feel like 3/4 length ones make me look like I’m going to the gym. Canberra weather is the bomb – it’s hot for like 1 week in January and it’s lovely and temperate for the rest of the year.

We’ve got 40 degree weather over here in Penrith, NSW. Light summer dresses are the only way to go!! 🙂

Whoa! That’s early for 40 degrees! I’m getting scared about this summer… I hate hot weather.

Sorry Lady Smaggle, Canberra’s getting longer, hotter summers. Scorchers. It’s not officially summer yet and we’ve already had several days in the 30s. A/C is keeping me and the dogs comfortable, and we’re definitely going to need it this weekend.

No way! It’ll cool down again for Christmas day… I haven’t not worn a cardigan on Christmas in Canberra for years!

Oh yes, I hang out for those days! There are always a few light jumpers and lots of cardigans in the closet over the hot months.
