What To Wear To A Concert

What To Wear To A Concert
Carly Jacobs
I

’m not much of a musical festival go-er. I’ve heard one too many terrible stories about people being urinated on in mosh-pits to ever get too serious about doing the festival circuit. I do love concerts though and through lots of trial and error and I’ve come up with a fool proof plan for what to wear to a concert. I’m talking hardcore concerts, not like pleasant old rocker style ones where you can sit down and order a cracker box with wine. Here’s what to wear to a concert you want to dance like a fool at…

Something with pockets

A dress with pockets or jeans will do. That way you can pop your cash, credit card, ID, lipgloss and phone in your pockets without having to worry about lugging a giant bag around. Just be careful to make sure your items are secure – deep and angled pockets are good for this.

A headscarf

Pretty much everyone’s hair gets trashed at concerts. It’s usually really hot and sticky and everyone ends up looking like drowned rats. Bundle your hair up in a rad head scarf and tie it turban style and you’ll look awesome all day. Here’s a a tutorial on how to tie a scarf into a turban if you’re not sure how to go about it.

Comfortable and protective shoes

I once read in the paper (yes the actual made-of-paper paper) that a girl had her toe stomped off in the mosh pit of some music festival in the UK. Stomped. Off. I’m not expecting you to wear steel cap boots but perhaps a nice sturdy pair of cute loafers or Converse sneakers would be a better choice than thongs.

Nothing precious

Don’t wear your grandmas pearl earrings if you’re going to be dancing like a maniac in a room with a thousand other people. Only wear things that you don’t really care about that much.

Something Breathable

I always wear 100% cotton to concerts because acrylic and polyester mix very, very badly with sweat. Wear something comfy that isn’t going to make you feel like you’ve been wrapped in plastic.

Here’s my standard concert outfit. I wear it nearly every year to Cellblock 69.

Forwarding this to my newly minted music festival goer. Wants to wear an all in one…nightmare for bathroom activities. Better coming from you than an ol fogey like me.
I also sent her the article re the guy that ejaculated on a girl in the mosh pit, wtf…would appreciate tips on handling the lead up to that, I told her to move away but snarl at him or elbow some space

I know! How gross is that? I don’t think I’ve ever been to a music festival… unless you count Foreshore or Stone Day in Canberra. I just think they’re gross. Tell her to be safe, don’t take anything that anyone gives her (including drinks!) and to leave if she feels uncomfortable. Luck!

Very timely post again! Im off to Soundwave in Adelaide this weekend.
I will be wearing a comfy hi-lo swing dress, nice and loose, but long enough so I don’t flash my undies to all and sundry when I sit down on the ground. Also my chambray shirt tied around my waist in case I want to cover up my shoulders.
My trusty BDO straw fedora, lots of dry-touch spray 50+ sunscreen that I take with me and top up regularly. I wear a small crossbody bag.
I will be living the thug life, walking on the edge and wearing my thongs (Its OK, I don’t enter mosh pits, I don’t like big pushy crowds, so I will be able to keep all my toes intact)….I am also going to remember to put sunscreen on my feet, as at the last BDO I forgot that very important detail and hence had a thong tan on my feet that lasted all through winter :o)
I am thinking about investing in a pair of black canvas Toms for events like this, and when we go to Malaysia later in the year. Easy wear and washable seems very important!

I fully support a Toms purhcase. I LOVE Toms. I’m wearing them right now. Good girl on the sunscreen! I also have a small cross body bag that I love. I’ve totally downsized my whole life and I just carry a tiny wallet, a lipgloss, my phone and a caming pouch of water. I’ve gone total basic and I love it!

  3. Geez i must say it has been a while since i’ve been to a concert! But yes i go with the comfy shoes for sure!!

I very rarely go to concerts – pretty much just the one every year! But it’s epic and requires much preparation and forethought!

Great ideas – now to find a concert to go to (that’s not a school concert)! Love the turban idea – doesn’t work with straight, fine hair unfortunately (I just go with a variation on a ponytail or loose bun, which is the best I can do)

It does work with straight fine hair! All the volume in this turban comes from the scarf – you just need a cotton (so it sticks!) scarf that’s quite large. Give it a go! I have a friend wiht alopcia who uses this method!

  5. I’m all about comfort because I’m a dancing! Dancing! I’m a dancing machine!

A few years ago I went to see AC/DC in concert. I’m a bit of a girly girl and 80% of my wardrobe is floral, so I had to go shopping and buy myself some black jeans and a grey top! Best concert I have ever been to, they were amazing.

Yep, black jeans, converse, and a sleeveless top in a light material. Smoky eyes and a natural hair (read: messy) and I’m out the door.

I go for comfort and a little of me. My style. I shared a post last week of what I wore to see one direction with my girls. V x
