How To Get Shit Done By Dobbing Yourself In

How To Get Shit Done By Dobbing Yourself In

umans can really be their own worst enemies can’t they? Whenever we make a positive change in our lives we seem hell bent on taking ourselves down. Every time I give up alcohol or chocolate I immediately start thinking about ways I can sneak alcohol and chocolate. It’s just silly isn’t it?

The same goes for our daily goals. Do you ever start the day with a list of manageable stuff only to kind of half-ass doing most of it and then pretend like the list never existed and congratulate yourself on a pretty mediocre day?

I’m a big fan of holding yourself accountable for your actions so why not make your to-do list public at the beginning of the day? Post it on your Facebook or Instagram account in the morning and then re-post it again in the evening when (hopefully) you’ve achieved everything on the list.

There’s a lot to be said for making a goal public, so I say you back yourself today and just go for it. If you don’t want to share your to-do list or if it’s private, a good idea might be to send it to your partner or a friend so you can check in with them at the end of the day. It’s all about letting other people know your intentions and following through with them in whatever form works for you. Dob yourself in and let the world know what you’re doing today.

I’ll start – here’s my to-do list for today…

I’ll check in at the end of the day and let you know how I did! Let’s start a hashtag for it – #dobbingmyselfin

Want to post your to-do list in the comments today? See if it helps you get shit done?

9am massage -easy peasy. Take dogs to vet for annual shots and checkup. Do hand washing. Make another batch of protein balls. Do 1 job my tomorrow self will thank me for. Found that last tip on a YouTube organising lady’s post and have really been embracing it. Especially love it when my tomorrow self thanks yesterday self profusely and lavishly! Xx

I wouldn’t find it very difficult to stick to a 9am massage appointment! I might book myself in for one actually… it’s been a while! I absolutely love the idea of doing 1 thing that future you will thank you for – I saw a similar thing a few years ago and I love it!

massage – check. vet – check. washing – check. protein balls – check. tomorrow job – check. Doesn’t seem like a lot to do, but it’s taken me all day! But I also did more washing and made vegetable feta pie for dinner. Tomorrow’s list is fairly simple, but exhausting, keep 2 year old entertained until her daddy picks her up after work.

This is such a good idea, I’m always hesitant though because I feel so guilty when people are like ‘How’s that Yoga class going?” little do they know I’m sitting on the couch watching The Block with a gob full of dark chocolate. must.be.more.disciplined.

That’s the beaut of making the list public! I’m ploughing through my list today – I’m usually pretty motivated but even I’m out motivating myself today! 🙂

Agree!! It’s harder to back out if people know about it, expect for me as I am a master of avoidance. But, here is what I want to achieve today: 1. Organise physio follow up. 2. Organise surgeon follow up. 3. Write a blog. 4. Finish the washing. 5. Do something nice for someone.

Progress: Physio is on Wednesday. Surgeon is tomorrow. About to write my blog. Two loads of washing done. Something nice? Banana and date loaf in the oven, and will be dropped in to an unsuspecting soul.

Oh wow! What a lovely thing to do… I might have to start doing that. I love baking but I’m always watching my weight so I can’t really have that kind of stuff in the house… I might see if there’s a retirement home that might like me to bake for them once a week!

I have a pregnant friend that I get too shy to visit without a reason. So I find this helps me to break through that barrier 😉

Totally off topic – have never heard you speak before – totally not the voice I was expecting – having said that totally fits in with your writing always alive, out there etc etc. Now you want to know what I was expecting, slower and deeper. You are such a great bird, I look forward every day to reading your latest, you help to keep me young.

Oh my goodness! What a lovely compliment! Lots of people tell me I speak just the way I write – a mile a minute and too many thoughts for each sentence! Thank you for that lovely comment, it truly did make my day!

    too good for me smags!
I hate to set myself up for failure! … so I won’t make a list, that I’m unlikely to stick to!
I like my whole day to be creative and I don’t want anyone checking up on me!
mind you I’ve got a bit of a mental list which I’ve stuck to pretty well today!
maybe I’m getting too good too! lol m:)X

Oh that sounds wonderful! I should do that more often – I’ve been working really hard 3 days a week so I can spend 2 days a week working on things I love!

I’m so frazzled ATM that I haven’t even had a moment to write my 2D list and it’s 12 bloody 59 PM. Just thought I’d share that. Some days… some freaking days… x
