3 Ways To Make An Old Dress Look Like A Brand New One

3 Ways To Make An Old Dress Look Like A Brand New One
Carly Jacobs
I

recently had someone comment on an Instagram post of mine that my wardrobe must be enormous. It’s actually the opposite of enormous. I have one side of a double sliding wardrobe that I share with my partner. True story. I totally love the fact that my readers think I have a bursting wardrobe though – it means I don’t look like I wear the same thing everyday when most of the time, I generally do. I thought I’d pop together a post showing you 3 ways to make an old dress look like a brand new one. I’ve had this dress for six years and it’s still going strong. Here’s how I mix it up.

Dress it down…

Swedish Hasbeen shoes

Supre shrug

Sportsgirl head scarf

This dress is actually quite fancy looking in real life so sometimes I like to dress it down. It came with a belt but I wear it long and loose with a little shrug and cute shoes if I want to look a little bit more casual.

Leather obi belt from Etsy

Melissa shoes

I’ve worn this dress to so many parties I can’t even count! It looks a bit funky with a wide waist belt and I’ve got a beaded bolero that I sometimes wear with it too. Different heels give it a totally different look too so even just swapping shoes can make it look totally fresh.

Layer it…

Merchant boots

Wrap cardigan from Zhai

Technically speaking this would be classed as a summer dress but because I’m a dead set rebel I wear it in winter with a cardigan over the top. CONTROVERSY! The trick is to always get cropped cardigans as full length ones can be a bit frumpy and unflattering over the top of dresses.

Do you have a dress that you wear lots of different ways? What are your tricks for sprucing up an old dress?

Veronika Maine is my best friend when it comes to clothes that do not date!
I have a gorgeous navy and black one of hers which I wore for my sons Christening when he was about 6 months old. He is 9 now and its still in the best condition and as its not black is totally versatile for ‘dressier than casual outings’ like Christenings, weddings, work functions. I love it. She also uses the best fabrics and each item has a few little quirks which make it a bit different from the normal basics.
Total quality! I love the white colour of this dress. I still don’t have a white dress, but I love them on others :o)

Love stories! I adore this dress – it was expensive for me at the time – around $300 but I’ve worn it to death. So worth it!

Yep…i wear dresses all the time! I need to work a little more on mixing them up. I am getting a bit stuck on different ways to mix up dressy looks though. I feel like everyone has seen my dresses a million times lol. Maybe a new sexy dress is on the cards :p

I barely wear anything else! I have 1 pair of jeans but I wear them so rarely. It’s all about the belts and cropped cardis to give them a different kind of look!

  3. Woot woo, hello gorgeous! My wardrobe is quite small too, so I’m forever wearing the same pieces in different ways. You’ve totally inspired me to invest in some wrap cardigans for the cooler months! x

You have to get them from Zhai Eco. The actual best. Bamboo cotton and so silky and smooth!

  4. I love that dress!

Love this, Carly. I’m also a big fan of the summer-to-winter-to-summer frock. Genius x
