5 Cheap And Easy Ways To Cheer Yourself Up

mproving your mood doesn’t have to cost you a cent. Here are 5 cheap and easy ways to cheer yourself up…

design-5

1. Be grateful

If you’re feeling a bit glum because it seems like everyone else is getting promotions, book deals, perfect partners and effortless six packs it’s important to remember how incredibly privileged you are. Your feelings are valid but if you’ve got a roof over your head, some money in your wallet and food in your fridge you doing pretty bloody well. If your pants are bit tight, be grateful that you’re lucky enough to be well fed. If you missed out on that 6-figure promotion, be grateful that the opportunity is even available to you.

2. Focus on what you are doing

Stop looking at what other people are doing and focus on yourself. If you’re applying for a job, don’t even think about what the other applicants are doing. Put all your focus into improving your own game.

3. Try not to dwell on things that aren’t important

Don’t let a bad hair or skin day ruin your attitude. The longer you spend working on your ‘flaws’ the bigger an issue they will become. Take 30 seconds to pop your hair in a ponytail or dab some concealer on that pimple and get out the door. Spending 45 minutes in front of the mirror will only make it worse.

4. Stay away from Instagram

It’s full of beautiful people, with beautiful thighs, living beautiful lives, holding pineapples and taking pretend bites of pretty cupcakes. Which is excellent when you’re feeling emotionally stable enough to deal with all that wavy-haired wonderment but if you’re looking to cheer yourself up, best stay away from there.

5. Spend time with positive people

Think about your mates. Which of your friends do you always leave in a better mood than before you saw them? Hang out with that person. Often.

Dog cuddles – and having just spent some time at Mum’s – kitten cuddles are awesome too.
A nice cup of tea on the back porch (actually stepping away from the computer during the work day – OMG!!!)
Read – a whole book, some poetry, a play…but on paper, not on the screen.
    Look at photos!

I love these ones! I do the 52:17 work plan – where I work for 52 minutes then I get a 17 minute break. It’s awesome. Makes me so much more productive.

  3. These are so, so good. Really good.
I’d also add puppy cuddles, watching your favourite funny movie/TV show, listening to your jam at high volume and dancing your butt off in your lounge room and buying a new lipstick. x

I love Taylor Swift dance break. I’m not going to lie… makes it a bit hard when I share an office with Mr Smaggle though… he’s not so much into the Tay Tay.

Decide to do something for someone else… then actually do it. It might even be making you partner or your kids or your dogs or your budgie their favourite dinner. How inclusive was that! Anyway. It makes me smile to do things for other people. And yes, like everyone else: Hug the crap out of your fur babies. Seriously. They don’t care how miserable you are, they just love love. Brilliant.

I had a TERRIBLE week last week. Like it was the worst. I was sick and recovering really slowly and then I started to cry when the internet stopped working. I’ve cried like twice in my life. It was horrible that’s why last week was full of articles about how to feel better when you’re feeling crap! 🙂

  8. Make a cup of tea and get outside. Play with the dog. Play with the kids. Just get some fresh air and tea cures everything.

I would say puppy cuddles but as I don’t have a pup to cuddle, I like to settle for stalking through my favourite dog accounts on Instagram. I think I follow nearly as many dogs as people (strange, but true.) Baking a cake always puts a smile on my dial too, it’s almost impossible to be miserable making a cake, especially when you know you can get to eat it, or even better share it!

Oh Mr Smaggle does that all the time! He has Groodles that he follows. Oh I should bake a cake! I’ve started back on my 5:2 today but perhaps tomorrow I’ll bake something healthy!

      • I follow lots of Groodles too! Mr Smaggle and I should compare notes. I follow so many pooches I’m thinking of writing a post called “5 dogs to follow on Instagram.” It would be a veritable groodle fest!

Friday Night Lights binge. Clear Eyes. Full Hearts. Can’t Lose. The Taylors made me deeply happy when I watched that show 🙂

Oh yes! I’ve been bingeing on FNL recently but then I moved to Hart of Dixie which I LOVE! It’s so terrible and awesome.
