I

‘m a sucker for a cute crafty shop. I used to spend every cent of my pocket money at the markets when I was a kid. Friendship bracelets, cute little pens with stuff stuck all over them, notebooks, stickers and anything at all with a teddy bear on it… I was all over it. Now that I’m a grown up, Etsy (and online in general) is where I spend all my pocket money… and by pocket money I mean the money I should be spending on food and toilet paper. I just love shopping online because I don’t have to see people and I can do it from the couch with wine and no pants.

In honour of lazy couch shopping, I’m partnering with the StarTrack Online Retail Industry Awards (StarTrack ORIAS) to celebrate awesome Australian online retailers, which is beyond awesome. I love supporting local businesses as well as the economy so this partnership is a dead set dream. I bet you’re wondering what the StarTrack ORIAS are. They’re basically the Oscars but for online retailers. I hope the award is a statue of a little gold person in a little gold bed placing bids on eBay at 3am on a tiny little gold phone. That would be rad… and accurate. Anyway, they’ve been around since 2010 but this year for the first time ever they are introducing the People’s Choice Award which means that you get to vote for your favourite Australian online stores.  You could even win one of ten $1000 gift cards (T&Cs apply). Voting closes 1 June, with finalists announced 17 June and the ultimate winner announced 23 July.

To celebrate the online Aussie shops that I love, I’ve popped together a list of my current favourite (and cutest) Australian Etsy stores. Enjoy!

I just adore these little 3D printed and hand finished vessels from EachToOwn.  I’m half tempted to order a dozen and have them on hand for my mates’ birthdays. How much would you love to get one of these delivered to your desk with a teeny bunch of flowers and a cupcake? Perfection.

There’s a whole faux glam movement going on at the moment that I’m just loving. Did you know that in the jewellery design world there’s unwritten rule that ‘evening’ earrings drop from a stud (like the earrings pictured from EachtoOwn) and ‘casual’ earrings usually drop from hooks? These would super fab with a ball gown or on the ears of a quirky bride I reckon.

If I worked in a corporate environment, I’d totally make whacky blazers my thing. Tailored and classic but a little bit kooky. This jacket from ApartofmeAPOM is gorgeous. They have the cutest prints in that shop – I love their dinosaur print skirt too.

I’m not really one for fashion trends but I do get excited whenever statement necklaces make a comeback because I get a chance to stock up! YellowTeapot have some of the coolest statement necklaces I’ve seen in years. Chunky (essential) but still streamlined and minimalist. They’re necklaces that compliment your outfit, not dominate it you know?

I’m not going to lie… surrealist art usually confuses me or scares me. I’m a dead set realist so I usually can’t figure it out but there’s something so calming about AlexisWinter prints. She’s got beautiful, weird little prints with all kinds of woodland creatures. They’re dead cheap too so they’d make amazing little gifts.

MiGoals is such an awesome little business to keep your eye on. They’re a company that sell very simple and very awesome goals journals. Have a squiz at the inside of one of the journals and it will give you a step by step guide for solidifying a goal, justifying it and then reaching it.  I have their day planner desk pad (and I LOVE it!) but next on my list is definitely one of their journals.

I have a craft store in my suburb that teaches night classes on how to make these macrame planters. It’s adorable – there are always about eight super cute hipster looking girls, wearing clogs, drinking wine and crafting. I’ve been meaning to pop along to one of these classes for months but I haven’t had the chance so when I saw these from Scoutgathers pop up in my recommended Etsy feed I was stoked. The perfect way to tide me over until I get to make my own.

I’m having a big moment in grandma style cushions and I just love this fabulous cross stitch printed cushion from Esthersandler. I’m currently working on a crochet granny square cushion and I think this one would look rather excellent next to it.

How adorable is this cup and spoon friend pair from Vanessabeanshop? I think this would be the perfect mug to have a mug cake in! I’ve been dying to try this Nutella mug cake recipe for ages!

Even though Etsy is absolutely my favourite online haunt I’ve got at least four or five other stores that I’ll be nominating. Adore Beauty is fantastic – they’re quick, cheap, reliable and you get a Tim Tam with every order. I’m not even kidding. An actual Tim Tam. I also heard an amazing story about the Birdsnest girls from a friend of mine. She needed a dress for a wedding and they sent the wrong size so one of the employees of Birdsnest drove the correct size dress to Canberra from their warehouse in Cooma. How amazing is that?

Don’t forget to cast your vote for your favourite Australian online retailer today. Small retailers and independent sellers can be nominated so don’t stick the mainstream suspects.

I looooooove the little leather moccasins from AutumnArrow (https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/AutumnArrow?ref=shopinfo_shophome_leftnav) My girl has just turned 1 and has size 5 feet so she’s in that weird size between toddler and junior shoes. These are great, flexible but sturdy shoes that last her ages.
