10 Lovely Things to Do This Weekend

10 Lovely Things to Do This Weekend

r Smaggle and I are so boring when it comes to the weekend. We wake up late, eat breakfast on the couch in our underwear, walk to the city, walk home and then work on our laptops while watching a non-descript sitcom that only requires a partial amount of our attention. Occasionally we’ll have dinner with friends but that’s about as complicated as it gets.

things to do this weekend

I find the biggest problem with doing something cool on the weekend is actually thinking of the cool thing. It’s far too much pressure to think of things on the spot, so I’ve knocked together a wee little list of 10 lovely things to do this weekend…

 1. Go ice skating

Pop on some woollen tights and a little skater skirt? Have a hot chocolate? Kiss your lover on the side lines?

2. Get dressed up for bed

Wear black silk pyjamas? A delicious lace camisole? Nothing but perfume and satin eye mask?

3. Go for a drive in the country

Wear your adventure clothes? Go for a long walk in the bush? Eat apples? Take a thermos of hot coffee?

4. Choose your signature drink

Whisky neat? Cabernet merlot? An old fashioned?

5. Sign up for a course

Coffee making? Flower arranging? Photography?

6. Take your book to a cafe

Order a delicate cake? And a pot of fragrant tea? Escape for a few hours?

7. Go to the theatre

Wear opera gloves? Drink champagne? Bellow ‘Marvelous darling!’ at the curtain call and give a standing ovation?

8. Try a food you’ve never tried before

Blood pudding? Sweet breads? Truffles? Chicken feet?

9. Be a tourist in your own town

Visit your local art gallery? Have dinner at the fanciest restaurant you can afford? Hire a limo for a city tour?

10. Take a nap

A post breakfast doze? An afternoon session? A pre-party refresher?

What are your weekend plans? Doing anything a little bit different this weekend?

P.S Did you know there’s a Smaggle newsletter? And Smags on Facebook? There’s lots of cool shit in both places so make sure you go to there.

I am terrible at choosing what to do. And I live by the beach so I have too many options probably. I try to be the (free) tourist in my own town the most though.

Chores at a leisurely pace, minor shoe maintenance, resting and helping a friend get her garage in order. May even get to play in the garden for a bit!

I LOVE to potter around on the weekends. Mr Smaggle is away this weekend so I’m going to clean things, watch silly movies and sleep in the middle of the bed. I’m so excited!

Exploring Emporium in Melbourne (I’m *particularly* interested in Muji after you mentioned it the other day), hang out with my sister doing a jigsaw, cos we’re THAT cool. Chillin, basically 🙂 I think tourist in your own town is a terrific idea and definitely something I want to try!

Oh it’s SO GOOD! Muji will change your life. It’s amazing. Jigsaw sounds so pleasant. My mum used to do jigsaws with my aunt and we had them framed all over our house.

Good ideas! I think I will grab a thermos of coffee, go for a long drive and be a tourist in my own town! Then Sunday will be PJ’s, wine and bad TV 🙂

Oh my lord I’m going to try to do that today! I’ve been really unwell this week so I’m going to take the work day a bit easy today and do just that!

This weekend we’re celebrating my mum’s birthday so I’m looking forward to the family time (especially as my brother is moving to Melbourne soon – waaaah). On an ideal weekend, I love going for a nice walk where we live. We can choose the ocean or an estuary. I like when we make it to the farmer’s market. That kind of stuff.

Oh Melbourne’s awesome! You’ll have to visit him!

  7. Love these – we WILL go for a drive and bush walk this weekend! xx

This weekend I’m trying to take it easy. It’s been a massive couple of weeks and I need a bit of down time. So I’m doing a bit of reading, some light cleaning and a spot of crafting. Then tomorrow I’m going to the movies to see Breakfast at Tiffanies on the big screen. Delightful!

One of my other favourite weekend activities is to make a big deal out of breakfast. On work days I just grab coffee and a bowl of porridge but on the weekend I have time to make something more special. Sometimes I’ll whip up eggs and fancy toast and a pot of tea or perhaps take a stroll to my favourite cafe for their amazing breakfast burger. It’s fun to make the first meal of the day a tiny bit more special on weekends.

I think our weekend adventure will be packing a picnic, and driving to the local dam/lake.
We may or may not take the bikes for the kids, too – there’s some decent tracks for them to ride on around there.
