9 Little Things That Will Totally Cheer You Up

9 Little Things That Will Totally Cheer You Up

his is my favourite regular segment on Smaggle. I write little lists of lovely things to do to brighten your week. It’s a tribute to the late great Diana Vreeland who had a column in Harper’s Bazaar called ‘Why don’t you…?’ where she’d write a decadent and beautiful list of life suggestions for her readers. If you’re feeling a little bit glum here are 9 things that will totally cheer you up…

cheer you up

Why don’t you?

1. Watch snippets of your favourite comedians on YouTube while you have your morning coffee? Louis CK? Jerry Seinfeld?

2. Bake a vanilla sponge cake with vanilla frosting? Have a slice every afternoon?

3. Store your toothbrushes and toothpaste in a fancy water glass?

4. Wear a headband?

5. Use the line ‘Kiss me if I’m wrong, but dinosaurs still exist right?‘ on the next cute boy you meet?

6. Colour in a picture with crayons?

7. Pour a little Bailey’s into a peppermint hot chocolate for a delicious and cozy night cap?

8. Do a handstand?

9. Experiment with tassels? Hanging around your waist from a rope belt? Threaded into your hair? Dangling from your handbag?

10. Listen to your favourite love song and pretend it was written for you?

Research has shown that people who subscribe to the Smaggle newsletter and like Smags on Facebook are, on average at least 32% better looking than people who don’t. You can’t argue with questionable science like that.

Fab list my lovely. I watch snippets of British comedian Michael McIntyre – cracks me up every time. Always looking to incorporate Baileys into a beverage and I had totally forgotten until I read today’s post, that we used to wear a shiny rope belt with tassels on our school sports uniform. Anyone else go back that far? xx

Oh my god! That’s like in the Robin Klien books about the Mellings sisters! They wore ‘dressing gown cords’ with their sports uniforms in different colours. Holy shit I didn’t realise that was a real thing!

Yep, they were available in a million colour combinations, to suit any school – ours were dark blue, light blue and gold. x

Love this one! For some reason your headband suggestion made me super excited to face today’s summery heat.

It’s cute right? If I was single, I’d be using it ALL the time!

Great article, Carly! Thank you for that! Now, if I were single I would probably use that line too.
Also, #3 and #7 are great ideas which are so easy to implement, and with really good results.
I love that you are full of positivity and laughs, but I would *never* recommend kicking your donkey!
