How To Get Your Energy Back

How To Get Your Energy Back

o you feel like you used to be a lot more energetic and now you can barely make it through the day before you collapse on the couch in a heap? I feel good most of the time but when I get busy, a lot of my good healthy practices go out the window. Sometimes I need a bit of a reminder of how to get my energy back – here are a few things I like to do on weeks when afternoon naps start seeming essential.

Fake getting ready

If your hair is up, let it down, change into a clean pair of socks at lunch time or brush your teeth. Most people feel more energetic in the morning when they’re getting ready so by mimicking a ‘getting ready’ action you’re sending a signal to you brain that’s it’s time to get on with the day. Give it a try – if it doesn’t work at least your socks and teeth are clean.

Close as many tabs as you can

You know that meme that says ‘My brain has too many tabs open’? If you see that meme and think ‘Oh yeah, that’s me!’ you need to start working on closing your tabs because they’re wearing you out. If you haven’t paid your electricity bill, booked your flights for that work trip, called the post office about that missing parcel, ordered your online shopping or cancelled your gym membership, that’s 5 tabs open and they’re draining your energy. Closing these tabs will take half an hour tops, so do it and click that little arrow in your brain to shut it down. Think of the energy boost you got every time you handed an assignment in at school – the same thing will happen when you close down unnecessary tabs in your brain.

Eat more greens

I don’t naturally reach for green leafy vegetables. Why would I? Potato is so much yummier! Unfortunately, you need to have leafy greens to survive and sometimes laziness, convenience and pure forgetfulness can mean that most people aren’t eating any where near as much green plant matter as they should be. Leafy greens actually help to transport oxygen around your body so they literally help you live. Have something green with every meal and monitor your energy levels. I’m almost positive you’ll get an extra bounce in your step from all the greenery!

Do you have any tips for getting your energy levels up? How do you cope on days when you feel like you need a before lunch and after lunch nap?

Great tips Carly! I love to go for a 20 minute walk to get my energy back – being outdoors in the sun and having a chance to breathe seems to help! x

I’m just about to do that now! I’m dead tired but I need to get my heart rate up – I’m going to go for a quick run before I settle down and start my day!

Fresh air is a huge one! We drove for 7 hours yesterday and the only saving grace is jumping out of the car and having a bit of a run around and jumping back in to continue the drive!

I don’t know why, but getting outside and rubbing my bare feet on the grass always re lights my fire. 🙂
