ometimes you just have to do something a little bit lovely. Particularly if you’re feeling a bit glum. Here are 9 little things that will make your day a bit amazing…

1. Buy a fancy soft drink to have with your lunch? Blood orange? Lemon and mint? Drink it through a straw?

2. Make a walking date every evening with a friend? Ban your mobile phones? Spend 20 minutes outside, undistracted, strolling and chatting?

3. Write a letter to your favourite high school teacher?

4. Re-read your favourite childhood books? Came Back to Show You I Could Fly? Sweet Valley High? Puberty Blues?

5. Grab a blanket, some pillows and an esky full of treats? Prop your laptop up in the park and have a personal outdoor cinema?

6. Learn a trick? Master juggling? Practice spinning a basketball on your finger? Always have a cool move to bust out at parties?

7. Go to a pet shop and visit the puppies?

8. Hide a sweet note on the street for a stanger to find? Slip it into a door way? Tuck it under the windscreen wiper on a car?

9. Go to the beach and write your name in the sand?

Love these sort of suggestions, make a world of difference, I am grabbing a coffee and taking my dog to the beach for fresh air and I’ll write a mental note of thanks to my Year 12 teacher who encouraged me despite my surliness (sadly he died many years ago)
Also Smags, no to pet shops, please. Call the guide dogs and see if you can help them out with some puppy socialising.

Most pet shops in Victoria have only rescue pets in them these days. I haven’t seen puppy farm dogs in pet shops in ages – I don’t think all states do that though.

tsk tsk! Once I know a shop is selling animals I leave/don’t enter – unless they are affiliated with a rescue group

This is really weird because as far as I know (or have experienced) pet shops in Melbourne pretty much only have rescues in them now. I don’t think it’s the same in all states but I’m certainly not suggesting that people support puppy farms or pet shops that buy from them! I also call all dogs ‘puppies’. Which I understand can be confusing. 🙂
