bloody love a good recommendation. I pretty much outsource all my decisions these days. I don’t have the time to waste on figuring out if something is good or not – I just wait for the internet to fall in love with it and then I follow suit. This is why I love doing recommendation posts – I get to tell you about all the good stuff I’ve discovered and you get to tell me about all about the awesome stuff you’ve discovered. You know the drill though. If you love these posts you have to participate in them! Naughty.

Making A Murderer

Mr Smaggle and I have been away since before Christmas and when we got back we jumped straight into a weekend long binge of Making a Murderer. It’s a Netflix series that’s really similar to the podcast Serial. It’s about a guy who gets imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit and then gets released after 18 years. I won’t say anything else about it but watch it. It’s fascinating, heart breaking and just plain bizarre. It was so good we watched all 12 hours of it in under 24 hours. It hurt but it was totally worth it.

Supermarket salads

I’ve been trying to increase my vegetable intake this year by having 5 cups of vegetables every single day, which means I’m often left paying $18 for a takeaway salad for lunch which is just ridiculous. If I’m on the run and need a healthy, veggie packed salad, I’ve been buying a pre-made spinach salad from Coles for $5 and adding a handful of shredded deli chicken for about $3. The pre-made Coles salad (it’s called a super food salad) comes with dressing and a fork and the whole she-bang costs me about $8. Giant time saving bargain. Highly recommended especially if you work near a supermarket.

Aperol and prosecco

I didn’t even know you were allowed to do this but I went to my mate’s place on the weekend and she made me an Aperol with Prosecco. It was summer perfection. I’m a red wine drinker and I tolerate white wine in summer but it’s not my favourite. This is the perfect solution. It’s tart and refreshing without the sweetness of white wine. Highly recommended.

I am obsessed with Making a Murderer. I have been researching ever since I finished watching it. I’m pretty impressed with your 24 hour record. I took about 72 hours…

We just slammed it over last weekend. It was awesome. Mr Smaggle is obsessed – he’s been researching it and sending me all the interesting articles to read!

It’s the only thing I can cope with in this heat! It’s driving me bananas! I might have to make one this arvo actually…

Get out of town! Are you in my brain?! These are also my 3 latest fave things. I have only watched the first ep of Making a Murderer – filled me with anger and made me cry. Coles salads – finally a bought lunch that doesn’t cost a fortune and is a healthy option – so many to choose from. Aperol spritz – thanks Nikki SY for that recommendation on her return from hols last year. Although, to be totally honest the spritz has high competition from G&T (a Mrs Woog recommendation), for latest fave summer drink. Does it count that your 3 things are also mine? xx

I must be in your brain! 🙂 I do love a G&T… I might make that a thing this arvo actually! You can totally count the same three things!

  5. I really need to get on this Making A Murderer. Currently loving The Syndicate (series 3) on BBC First though.

You definitely have to get on it! I’m suffering hard core withdrawals!

I’m making January all about salads! I’m loving making up “nourishment bowls” for my lunches at work, based on Lorna Janes’: http://www.movenourishbelieve.com/nourish/build-nourishment-bowl/. They usually involve a spoon or two of a pre-made salad from the supermarket along with shredded carrot, greens, nuts etc. I LOVE them!

Series-wise, I’m into Gotham right now. It’s not “OMG I need to watch another episode NOW!” stuff but it’s enough to keep me interested and enjoying it and wanting to make time for it 🙂

Drinks-wise, I’m all about gin at the moment. Little local distilleries and different flavours mixing with different tonics. Did you know you can get speciality tonics?! It’s a thing.

I bloody pre-made salads – they just make eating healthy so much easier! I haven’t watched Gotham but I’ve heard it’s great and no I did not know about specialty tonics!!!! I have to get on this.

OMG how good are aperol spritzers! Saved me all summer being a red drinker myself.
And totally binge watched “Making a murderer” too, such an appalling story. Absolutely must see.

I still don’t know how I feel about it… It’s very Serial esque. I don’t necessarily think he’s innocent but I don’t think he should in jail based on the evidence they found.

I am into my new skincare routine -Alpha H cream cleanser and HM Acne Gel had made my face clearer and less textured than it has been in a year. Also, White Wings brownies are on sale (one of only two packet mixes I would ever be caught dead using). Finally, sorting. I took inspo from Marie Kondo but condensed all my paperwork and recipes into two display folders.

Oh that’s a wonderful idea! Mr Smags and I are planning on Kondo-ing our storage locker this weekend. It’s going to be pretty epic!

I’m probably behind the eight ball, but we watched Blackfish recently and I loved (and hated) it. Such an interesting insightful documentary.

I’m also trying to get through Making a Murderer, but the documentary style is a little bit slow moving for me.

Blackfish is incredible – I absolutely loved it!

These are amongst my favourite posts, I love what you share and everyone else’s comments.
I am always on look out for good shows. Love binge watching. Will check the Making a Murderer one and Blackfish.
I am getting into good sleep hygiene, am so much nicer and more productive.
Checking out those Coles salads and going to stop snubbing those Jamie O dinners for nutritious easy tasty meals.
Just started the Marie Kondo book, am a bit afraid of what is ahead.
My word this year is ‘strong’, not that I have ever had a word for the year before!
I’m also going to honour my desire to wear black and white as much as I like as it is stylish and effortless.
Also no denying my favourite cheap and cheerful lipstick (worn for many many years…) Revlon’s Wine with everything.

I freaking love Jamie O meals. Actually addicted to them. Marie Kondo will kill you – in a good way.

I’ve been telling everyone I know to listen to the musical ‘Hamilton’ for more than a month now. I discovered it before Christmas and I bought the cast recording about three songs in (although the whole thing is streamable on Spotify). IT. IS. AMAZING. And has managed to pique my interest in early US pl

    • laurie j. 8 years ago

Eeek! That should’ve been ‘early US political history’ which I never would have imagined myself giving a toss about tbh.

I was curious about aperol spritz and will have to try it now! The Shannara Chronicles is a great (if you like fantasy) TV show filmed in NZ. Really well made.
Favourite summer drink currently is white port with ice – so refreshing.
Last but not least – vegetarian arancini. Great way to use up leftover risotto, are good hot or cold and awesome broken up into a salad. ?
