5 Things you Didn’t know about Reality Bites

5 Things you Didn’t know about Reality Bites

eing in your twenties is weird. You feel old, yet young and there’s this weird sense that your life is over even though it’s only just beginning. I’m getting all rhetorical now aren’t I? There are very few films that will capture the essence of this overly existential time and one that does it perfectly is Reality Bites. It just totally incapsulates that moment in everyone’s lives when you realise the world is a bit bullshit. If you’re feeling a little bit emo but also bursting with fruit flavour I’ve got a few little bits of trivia about this 90s masterpiece.

1. Helen Childress (the scriptwriter) was just 19 years old when she completed the script.
2. Renee Zellweger is in it. She’s plays a silent love conquest of Troy. They have a sneaky pash in the first few scenes as he’s leaving her house.
3. David Spade is in it. He plays the manager of a burger joint.
4. Winona Ryder basically cast the movie. She backed both Ethan Hawke and Janeane Garofalo. Good choice there Ryder.
5. Laney Boggs (the lead character in She’s All That) is based on Winona Ryder’s characters in Edward Scissorhands (Kim Boggs) and her character in Reality Bites (Laney Pierce).

Are you a fan of Reality Bites? Do you also think Winona Ryder is the most stunning thing to have hit the silver screen in the 90s?
