9 Things I’m Totally In Love With Right Now

9 Things I’m Totally In Love With Right Now
Carly Jacobs
I

have a friend who is a killer researcher of cool things. Her name is Nina and every time she recommends something to me it becomes my very favourite thing in the world. Essie nail polish. Full cream milk. Bioderme moisturiser. This list goes on. I keep telling her she should start a blog called Nina’s Number 1s but she’s not that keen. Perhaps we should all peer pressure her to start it? That sounds like fun!

Until I manage to get together a mob to force Nina into starting a blog she has no interest in starting, here are a few things I’ve been loving lately. Do let me know about your favourite things too.

1. Simply Crochet Magazine

I know I keep banging on about it but I’ve become a crazy crocheter in the past year. This means I’ve spent a good chunk of my disposable income on hooks, yarn and a shite load of books. So many books. All the crochet books. I’ve perused all the magazines on offer and they’re all a bit daggy for my liking but I adore Simply Crochet. All the patterns are super useful, really cute and there’s not a daggy colour combo in sight. It’s a nightmare to try to find but country towns always manage to pull through for me – thanks for the latest issue Mudgee!

2. Trello

My latest organisation obsession is Trello. I’ve been using it to organise bigger projects so I don’t forget all the small steps I need to take. It’s awesome. I have a blog, a blog school business, 2 podcasts, several regular writing gigs and a billion social media platforms I have to manage all the time and Trello makes me want to cry less about it, which is always a good thing.

3. Watching the entire back catalogue of Degrassi High on YouTube

It’s just so good. I also started stalking all the stars on Twitter and Melinda Shankar totally followed me back. I’m glowing. GLOWING!!! I’m also totally in love with Eli and if you comment on this post and you know who Eli is, email me your address and I’ll send you a little handmade crochet something. I promise. I need to talk about Eli with someone and I can’t find anyone who knows who he is. I will resort to bribes.

4. Boiled egg snacks

Sometimes I forget about boiled eggs and then I remember them and then I eat them all the time. Now is one of those times. They’re hearty, they’re delicious and they fill you right up. Best snack ever.

5. OXO Twisting Tea Ball

We’re very serious about tea making in the Smaggle house and we recently bought this OXO tea strainer. After fighting over it for 3 months we bought another one on the weekend and now we can have a cup of tea at the same time. It’s awesome – you can scoop in exactly how much you need, it cleans really easily and there’s no sneaky bits of tea that escape all the time.

6. F45

I’m sure I’ve mention this before but I love it. It’s 45 minutes of hardcore exercise and it goes so quickly I barely noticed it. I’ve been doing it for most of the year and it’s amazing. I have mini-guns and everything.

7. You and Hidden Bodies by Caroline Kepnes

I read these two books while I was in the US and I adored them. They’re kind of like Dexter in a way. I can’t tell you too much more about them without ruining them but if you like quirky, serial killer type books read these. They’re weirdly not scary though.

8. Le Tan Daily Face 50+ BB Creme

I bought this a few months ago and I’ve ploughed through it. I use it as a primer for underneath my foundation. It’s the highest SPF I could find and it does wonders for making my skin look all clear and delicious. If you’ve seen my face in the past three months, not hated it and wondered what products I’ve been using, this one is the culprit.

9. Everything in this Etsy store

I went through a major hippie phase in late high school and there’s something about the whole floaty skirt, turquoise jewellery and draped scarf thing that I just can’t ditch. It’s not my style now but it’ll come back to me one day, I’m sure of it.

As usual I’d love it very much if you told me a few things you’re loving this week.

Oh I love Chambray shirts – I’ve never been able to make them work on me but I’m super jealous of people who get them to work!

Loving finding old UK crime shows to watch – they are more low key than US stuff. I’m talking 10-15 years old. The newer UK ones can be a bit grim (I’m looking at you Luther). Also loving working through my Kelley Herring “better bread” cookbook. I am trying to go grain free and there are some interesting things to try. I love her “burger buns” – so easy to make, great texture and hold together really well. Also trying to be super aware of hidden sugars so that I can avoid. xx

Gasp! I adore Luther. There’s a few episodes I haven’t seen but I can’t finish it. I will be so sad! I love the idea of making my own bread – is it gluten free as well?

Okay, I just came across smaggle when I was researching the history of feminine products for a school project, and you wrote an amazing article about that! I read it, but then I started to get distracted and decided to look at some of your other articles. Thankfully, I stumbled across this one. I was reading it, and when you mentioned Degrassi I was intrigued. However, you mentioned Eli and my heart stopped. You don’t even know how much I love him. I love him with Claire, I love his black nails, I love his car, and I love him. I’m so glad you understand.

You have no idea how much this totally made my day. I literally started following Munro Chambers on Twitter and I have no idea what to say to him. I’m so glad I found another person to share the Eli love with! Internet fist bump! I’m so glad he’s still in it a bit with the New York thing. I don’t ever want him to leave.

My favorite new things always tend to be podcasts and food. But seriously: the My Favorite Murderer podcast. I heard my first ep on Monday and have only binged since then. It’s new but amazing!

Oh my god this is the creepiest thing in the world. I’m literally listening to it right now! It’s awesome I love it. Because I’m a serial killer creep too.

I also love boiled eggs! When I don’t have any protein for lunch, I just boil a couple of eggs up to have with my salads for lunch. So easy!

I’m loving the show 11.22.63 and I’ve also been trying out collagen supplements by Pro Plenish – it’s expensive, but I thought I’d give it a trial since other women at work are using it and I’ve noticed a difference in my skin. It also helps me keep my water intake up.

Oh goodI’m so glad people are loving that! It was a bit of rogue one but I love it so much.

This week I’m loving how organised I am in the kitchen. My stockpile is growing, I’ve got a two week menu plan, I’ve got list & ive got stolen lemons!
I’m still loving my crochet too. I can’t ever seem to find that mag but you’ve convinced me to look again. And what books should I look up? I always get overwhelmed.
And I’m loving rewatching Gilmore Girls ( for about the 5th time). What I’m loving is the fact I only have about 7 eps left.
And I also rediscovered my love for Wil Andersons podcast. Always SO good!

It’s so impossible to find because it’s from the UK so it’s kind of expensive so some newsagents don’t stock it. I adore it! My favourite book is Filigree Crochet and it’t full of whimsical stuff. I love it. Oh I’ll add Wil Anderson to my podcast list.

hold up GF! once I get through DJR you know I’ll be with you on the Eli train.

I hope you’re eating salt and pepper on those boiled eggs. yummo.

We’ll have to discuss crochet magazines tomorrow cos I have my favourites too – we can dissect!

Also I use Asana… I like it better than trello? but still. I’m so disorganised.

I would never eat a boiled egg without salt and pepper. Don’t you know me at all? I use Asana and Trello because #organised.

When I read OXO I immediately thought of OXO cubes….I thought wow Smags has really got into the clean eating if she’s having stock for a cuppa!
That Etsy store is divine, I’ve had it bookmarked to get a scarf for a friend.

I’ve finally finished Mad Men! So I’m at a lose end with shows to watch.

Loving the baggy fine knit jumpers from Kmart, especially in stripes! with leggings and flats and scarf

Oh gross that’s like that Bovril beef drink they have in the UK. Gross! I’m so wanting to finish Mad Men – I’m getting there! Oh I should look at K-mart they have some pretty fancy stuff there these days!

How great is Trello! I’ve recently been introduced to it for work… I really like also how you can run multiple boards and that some can be shared among a team of people and others remain private.
My other big love at the moment is online shopping, especially through Birdsnest. I’ve realised sadly it’s less to do with the lovely clothes and more to do with their lovely handwritten notes & personalised service!

I love it! I keep setting boards up for everything they’re endless to do lists – which sounds horrible but it’s actually not that bad. Oh they have the best online service ever. Seriously above and beyond.
