Let’s Take A Breather…

ou know what? Sometimes it’s really nice when you’re feeling a bit frazzled to just take a moment to look around and see what’s going on. I’m naturally a very fomo (fear of missing out) type of person so I don’t often sit quietly and ponder things. I don’t do it naturally so I sometimes have to force/remind myself to stop doing things and start looking at things. So today I thought I’d take stock…

Making: A grey waffle stitch crocheted scarf for Mr Smaggle. We’re designing it together for a pattern I’m going to publish. I’m very excited about it.

Cooking: My easy dinner of a bag of stir fry veggies and brown rice. It takes no time at all to cook and it’s full of awesome healthy veggies.

Drinking: Red wine! It’s totally the season for it. I suffer all through summer taking pinch-nosed sips of white wine until I can finally have a big bold shiraz. Bliss!

Reading: Really nasty serial killer books, as always.

Wanting: A proper weekend off. They always disappear so quickly and seem to be full of work and meetings and other people’s celebrations. Which is grand but I do love lazy weekends

Looking: For some new winter clothes. I swear this winter is colder than any other winter we’ve had in years. I need to get some merino stat!

Playing: Bonobo. It’s a great electronic band that Mr Smaggle got me on to. Their Black Sands album is almost totally lyric-less so it’s perfect for writing.

Deciding: Big business things. I’m feeling a very strong pull in a certain direction so I feel like I’m going to go with it. It’s scary but awesome.

Wishing: That everyone would just get along. I’m so sad every day to see people killing, fighting and hating. Every life matters and everyone deserves to live their days in peace without violence or abuse.

Enjoying: My weekend away in Bendigo! It’s my mother-in-law’s birthday this week so we met them in Bendigo for the Marilyn Exhibition. It was wonderful – Bendigo is insanely gorgeous.

Waiting: For Finding Dory! It’s out this week! I feel like it’s June 2003 and I’m waiting at the bookstore for Order of The Phoenix.

Liking: Peppermint tea. It’s just so good for the digestion.

Wondering: If I should ditch my fringe… or keep it? Or grow my hair longer? Or cut it off all short again? Hair help!

Loving: Electric blankets – we stayed at an AirBnB that had an electric blanket and it was insanely amazing. I think I want one.

Pondering: Why the Queen’s Birthday isn’t actually the queen’s birthday.

Considering: Running regular 2 week long habit challenges on Smaggle. I’m loving doing the #wholesomehabitschallenge at the moment. Any thoughts? Would you be keen to do Wholesome Habits regularly?

Buying: New cutlery. Mr Smaggle and I never got around to buying proper grown up cutlery so we went out bought some Georg Jensen sets. We are proper, proper grown ups now.

Watching: Alan Partridge’s Scissored Aisle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJVtRoKwv_U. I can’t get enough of that guy. ‘JURASSIC PARK!!!!’

Hoping: To get all my writing work done so I can take the public holiday afternoon off!

Marvelling: At all the wonderful people in my life. I’m very, very lucky and I never take it for granted. My family is tops, my friends are ace and my partner is everything. It makes all the bad stuff okay, it really does.

Cringing: At this butthole sitting next to me at the cafe who sent his coffee back 3 times. Coffee is subjective, doofus. Also just don’t drink it and don’t carry on about it. If you’re that fussy just make it yourself. Sheesh.

Needing: Underwear and a new washing machine. Those things are very much related to each other.

Questioning: Everything. Always. I’m the biggest ‘Why?’ asker ever.

Smelling: Coffee! Yummy coffee, delicious coffee, won’t-send-it-back-to-the-kitchen-because-it’s-perfect coffee.

Wearing: A giant structural grey jersey dress, black tights, brown boots and a big Smaggle turquoise colours crochet cowl I made myself!

Following: @vickiee_yo on Instagram. The most insane Melbourne cookie maker. Follow her account – she’s a damn delight that one.

Noticing: How well my body responds to hard core exercise. I’m never giving up F45!

Knowing: There’s no better cure for the blues than a bath, a hot chocolate and a cuddle on the couch.

Thinking: About going a bit lighter with my hair… like a bronde?

Admiring: Mr Smaggle. On the way out of the cafe today he told the barista her coffee was great and that the guy who sent it back was being a dick. He hates it when people are unnecessarily unkind to other people and always goes out of his way to make people feel better.

Sorting: My clothes! I’m getting so ruthless – I have about 30 things left in my cupboard in total. Loving it.

Getting: Sore thighs from all the squats and lunges in F45. I love it so much.

Bookmarking: Crochet tutorials. Always.

Coveting: The entire new Marimekko collection. Last season the cuts sucked on me but this year they’ve totally upped their game. I have my eye on an orange, grey and green oversized dress that looks like carpet. Must have.

Disliking: Being a bit under the weather. Sore throats suck.

Opening: Packets of porridge! It’smarimekk totally porridge season.

Giggling: At Brooklyn 99. I’ve never watched it properly but I always watch it if I catch it on TV. It’s very funny.

Feeling: Excited because it’s looking like I’m off to Milan at the end of July!

Snacking: On veggies. I’m doing a 5 cups a day for my Wholesome Habits Challenge. It’s great so far!

Helping: Organise our Milan trip – so much stuff to do before then!

Hearing: A lovely guy whistling in the laundromat. I could listen to it all day!

Mixing: Green smoothies – gotta keep the veggies up.

Worrying: About everything. The economy, the future of the planet – worrying is a full time job for me.

Slicing: Zucchini to make zucchini bakes!

Celebrating: Mr Smaggle’s birthday later this month.

Forgetting: To send invoices and then wondering why I haven’t been paid.

Winning: Nothing actually! I want to win a thing… how do I do that?

Pretending: To not be sick… my favourite winter game.

Sneaking: Extra treats… Mr Smaggle is very good at helping me ration treat foods but sometimes I find the stash and help myself. Shhhhh!

Embracing: Winter fashion. Meaning I wear my coat all day and I don’t care.

Here’s a blank one for you to use. This little list comes from Pip Lincolne of Meet Me At Mike’s. She’s totally cool for you to use it too just make sure you credit her.

I’ve read a few ‘taking stock’ type posts but this list is next level! I’m definitely loving that crochet tram, what a dream. And I’m currently drinking green tea with mint leaves and honey, and enjoying a crocheted blanket over my knees on this cold morning… because I am in fact a 70 year old, in disguise as a 27 year old 😉

HA! I love it! I’m definitely a 70 year old too… I can’t party any more. I want to have a few sensible glasses of wine and be tucked up in bed with Mr Smaggle and a cup of tea by midnight!

I love this. I do a ‘taking stock’ post every couple of months. I don’t think I’m due another one yet, but I am definitely going to check haha.
I would love to do regular challenges with you! I like to keep myself accountable and I think that I enjoy doing it with a team atmosphere – really motivating!

Yay! Oh that’s so nice to hear – I’m thinking next month of doing no eating after dinner, maybe no alcohol and drinking enough water!
