9 Flipping Sweet Things To Do This Winter

9 Flipping Sweet Things To Do This Winter
Carly Jacobs
I

adore winter. I’m not even a fair weather winter adorer. I love it when it’s 3 degrees outside, I love it it’s raining and I even love it on sunny summer days. I’m a pretty snuggly person and winter is an excellent facilitator for snuggles. I also sleep much better in winter. Mr Smaggle is made of fire so it’s much more comfortable sharing a bed with him in winter than summer. It’s all just lovely good stuff. I also love warming foods like soup and porridge. It’s such a magical time of the year. I know I’m in the minority here though so for those of you who struggle with winter, here are a few very lovely things to do when it’s chilly outside.

1. Have a doona date with your best mate? Instead of heading out to a chilly restaurant, have him/her over for tea and blanket time? Wear your PJs?

2. Drink red wine by the fire? Play scrabble? Read a book?

3. Go for a cuddly winter walk? Rug up in your toastiest jacket, your snuggliest scarf and your warmest gloves? Wander around your city with pink cheeks?

4. Make flavoured popcorn? Mulled wine? Baked ricotta?

5. Do something you can only do in winter? Go for a drive to see snow? Find a pop up ice skating rink in your city?

6. Make delicious slow cooker food? Stew? Soup? Casserole?

7. Go to a second hand book shop? Take a coffee in with you (careful not to spill it!) and spend some time in your favourite section? Craft? True Crime? Art?

8. Have a lovely long Skype date with someone you love who lives far away? Make it a dinner date? Each cook your own dinner, bring your own wine and meet up for a long distance date?

9. Binge watch a TV show you’ve had book marked for ages? Making a Murderer? House of Cards? Breaking Bad?

I’m actually going to be away in Italy for the coldest part of winter this year (yay!) and I leave in 2 weeks! It was kind of a last minute planned trip so I’m frantically running around trying to patch together a decent summer wardrobe to take with me.

I’m heading to Milan, Lake Como, Rome, Venice and Germany so far – any suggestions for stuff to do? I haven’t been to Europe since I was 19 years old and I did it very quickly and cheaply back then. Any suggestions of where to go? Have you been before?

Oh and what’s your favourite thing to do in Winter? Any stand by recipes you pull out whenever the temperature drops?

P.S Also you should totally sign up for my newsletter. It’s full of cool stuff.

My suggestion for Italy, esp Rome is if you want to do any tourist stuff, see if there’s a night tour. That way, you avoid the heat and the crowds.

Oh, also try to get tickets for the opera at the old Roman baths. It’s amazing. I’d never been to opera before and wasn’t sure about it but it’s really casual and fun 🙂 Get the cheapest tickets though because, as soon as the bell rings, everyone rushes forward and grabs any good seats that haven’t been sold.

Oh that sounds amazing! I’ll add it to the list. I think we’re only in Rome for a day but we’ll see how much we can fit in!

I bake sticky date! And cook a lot of roast! I love winter, just wish there was more of it to go around here. I love getting all rugged up and grabbing a coffee from my favourite cafe and sitting in the park, something I really can’t do in summer. At the moment I’m really enjoying the cold weather because it means going for walks and smelling all of the fires that are burning…and catching Pokemon. Also loving snuggling in bed with the heater on and a good book.

I adore the smell of burning wood – it’s such a cosy lovely smell. And holy shit I’ve been Pokemoning like a crazy woman. I’m still too nervous to go to a gym though. I don’t really know what I’m supposed to do there?

Women’s Scarves and binge watching Netflix/ Tv Series – our 2 favourites things in life Carly! – especially as we are located in the UK where the weather is always pretty dull and cold 🙁 x

Ohh – Welcome to Germany, Carly 🙂 I am German and prepare for the heat we have had here in Southern Germany so far….

Oh we are going to Germany! Probably Berlin – any suggestions would be great particularly if you know of any yarn stores or crochet classes! 🙂

Hi Carly, I could recommend a lot of places for you to visit but you will thoroughly enjoy Lake Coma and the surrounding area. It is stunningly beautiful, I visit at least 4 times a year as it is the home to the Italian luxury scarf market, especially the Pashmina we sell. Brad Pitt, George Clooney all have spectavular villas overlooking the lakes. Enjoy!!
