How To Be Glamorous

I live in a pretty funky suburb. It’s full of incredibly stylish and totally unique looking people. There’s one woman who gets her coffee from the place I get mine and she always looks like she’s walked out of the pages of Yen magazine. Her hair is always perfectly coiffed, her eye make up looks like it takes her 4 hours every morning and she has different wild nail art every week. I really admire her. She’s very consistent in her presentation and I think she’s a wonderful example of how true glamour never dies. She inspired this week’s lovely list post.

How to be glamorous… why don’t you…?

1. Wear nail polish? All the time? Never show a nude nail?

2. Wear an eye mask to bed? Silk? Egyptian cotton? Sleep like a true diva?

3. Dine in the same restaurant every Thursday evening? Have a standard booking with a regular table?

4. Collect something? Italian Vogue magazines? Bakelite brooches? Milk glass vases?

5. Create an extraordinary hair-do and make it your signature? A bee-hive? A fuschia pink dye job? A dead straight Cabaret style bob?

6. Be fastidious about oral hygiene? Brush, floss and gargle with mouth wash twice daily? Carry a tiny dental kit in your handbag?

7. Have a glass of champagne with lunch?

8. Find the most beautiful thing about every person you meet and compliment them sincerely? Do this every day?

9. Have a gemstone talisman? Citrine for luck and protection? Garnet for love?

I’m going to try to be a bit more glamorous this week… starting with a fancy manicure and a whisky on the rocks!

What do you do to feel glamorous? Have a fancy bubble bath? Wear totally hot undies? Sleep in the nude?

P.S This post was first published in 2015 but I though it was too cute to leave it buried in my archives.

Go you beautiful lady. I love your ideas. I like to add a little glamour to my everyday in my own way by adding little things I love and making sure I am looking my best. This makes me feel good and in return I get on with my day happy. Have an awesome week and I cannot wait to see you rock your manicure and enjoy your scotch on the rocks. Hugs. V x

Oh thank you that’s so lovely of you! I’m rocking a black and silver polka dot manicure and I’m fanging for my fancy drink tonight!

I like to wear nice clothes, shoes handbags etc, but sometimes feel a bit out of place, because I live and work in small coastal tourist town, where dress code is very relaxed. Friend of mine and her hubby popped in to see me briefly at work one day. Afterwards she messaged me that her husband said I was too glamorous to work in that place. What a sweetie – totally made my day. xx

Oh that’s so lovely! I totally know what you mean – I used to feel out of place all dressed up but I realised it’s because other people always comment on how I’m ‘over dressed’ but it’s more because they feel under dressed and that’s not my problem. If my high heels and fancy dress makes someone else feel daggy that’s not my issue. It sounds harsh but I don’t care how anyone else dresses so they shouldn’t care how I dress! πŸ™‚

I really, truly love your posts Carly πŸ™‚ I’ve said it before, but really, they make my day! Especially on blue, flat mornings like today when I need a bit of sparkle… I’m going back to my old, pre-“I-should-probably-have-more-sleek-and-‘grown-up’-hair” signature hair-do for a while I think – braids of any and all sorts! And maybe some bubbly after work for good measure πŸ˜‰

Oh you are so lovely! That totally made my day! Please do both of those things – fancy hair and fancy bubbles will make for a gorgeous day! xxx

Sleep in nude is the best of feeling glamorous and chic to me or at very least NO undies, glass of prosecco for /with breakfast, start work day early with a sit down latte in my favourite cafe and newspaper, funky coloured toes peeping through sandals (wearing Cadbury purple at the mo) and I always wear a nice lipstick
PS interestingly a good friend gave me a citrine necklace years ago, so I might wear that this weekend for Melbourne Cup luck

Citrine is lovely! I’ve never been a huge one for crystal touching but I think the concept is so lovely. I love the idea of Cadbury purple nails… must stock up! xx

I’m getting a manuicure for the first time in a zillion years on the weekend and am DETERMINED to keep the nail polish happening after that. I nearly always have bright toenail polish πŸ™‚

I pretty much always have painted nails. My friends know I’m having a rough week if my nails are nude!

  6. Well this is very well timed – spray tan and Shellac mani booked for tonight! Also picking up my dresses and millinery for Derby Day and Melbourne Cup. I’M SO FREAKING EXCITED!

Oh so exciting! I need to book a spray tan actually for a wedding in Nov… it’s been a while since I had one but I’m wearing gold so I don’t want to look pale and weird…

Perfume, each and every day. I find it very hard to not use my favourite Guerlain every day (Vol de Nutt). I’m not sure that glamorous is the right word (I feel I’m far too pragmatic for that), but it’s a luxury that is fabulous.

I went off perfume for a while but I’ve gone back to my basic Givenchy Organza – it’s not too expensive and it smells like cake! πŸ™‚

  8. Yes, perfume every day, what a difference that makes. And, stepping up to the the #everydaystyle group on Instagram even when I really don’t feel like it. We too live in a small coastal town and my bloke and I were recently told we were the best dressed couple in town. I love that and like you Carly, who cares if it makes others feel cruddy. Maybe it can even inspire them to lift their game and feel better about themselves.

Totally! It’s a weird hybrid of tall poppy syndrome. I love it when people look gorgeous!

I hope this lady you speak of somehow reads this. What a complement to exude so much glamour you’re worth a stranger’s blog post. xo
