9 Ways To Get Your Shit Together in 2019

Don’t you just love the beginning of a New Year? It’s like the clean sheet day of life. It’s the perfect time to plan out some challenges and start thinking about ways to get your shit together in 2019.

Sometimes it’s hard to figure out what you want and what you should be concentrating on though. I’ve found challenges to be enormously helpful in the past few years. If you’re keen to join some cool challenges this year here are a few I’ve done in the past that are pretty ace. Also, don’t get your knickers in a twist about starting any of these on the 1st January. They will be just as effective if you start them next week when you’re home from holidays…

1.The Minimalist Game

I did this last year and it was a game changer. It stopped me from buying useless shit through out the year and made me really value what I buy and where it comes from. Massive money saver too. There’s really nothing to lose. I’m a minimalist for life now. To the point where I don’t want presents anymore – seriously unless it’s wine or yarn, I don’t want it.

2. Febfast

Speaking of wine, I love a glass of wine (or four) but I just function SO MUCH better without alcohol in my system. I’m currently breastfeeding so I can’t go too wild on the summer bevvys but most years I do some kind of alcohol-free period several times a year. I went alcohol-free for the first three months of 2018 and it was amazing. It was also super shite timing because I got pregnant immediately afterwards so I’ve pretty much had a full year without alcohol. If three months is too scary, try giving FebFast a go. I usually do Dry July and Oct-Sober too just give my body a bit of a cleanse. If you’re keen to join you can sign up here.

3. Smaggle Salad A Day

I started a little challenge in December a few years ago and lots of you gorgeous creatures joined in. I’m doing it again for February this year but this time there’s no prompts – just a simple salad every day. If you want to play along just snap a photo of your salad and hashtag it #smagglesaladaday so I can be a sticky beak and see what you’re eating.

4. The Whole 30

I’ve been meaning to give this another crack after failing spectacularly at it last year so I’m giving it another go this year. It’s pretty much a month where you eat nothing but meat, veggies, fruit, nuts and eggs. I eat like this most of the time but this will force me to ditch my too milky teas and secret Quest bar habit. I’m looking forward to eating clean for a month and resetting my eating habits. If you’re keen to join me details are here.

5. 20 Minutes A Day

I remember reading somewhere last year that a supermodel or actress (I want to say Kate Hudson but then again I could be lying) exercises for just 20 minutes every day. It sounds so bloody achievable, doesn’t it? If you’re a bit adverse to exercise why not give this a go? It’s a great way to give yourself a focus to get yourself moving every day.

6. 30 Day No Waste Challenge

If you’ve got plans to cut down on your waste production this year, participating in a no waste challenge is a great place to start. Here’s some extra tips for cutting down on waste without totally ruining your life.

7. Meal Planning

Meal planning does not only save you time and money but it’s also an excellent way to improve the health quota of the meals you cook. I never used to meal plan because I lived opposite a supermarket but now that I’ve moved I need to plan meals because I can’t duck to the shops as easily as I used to. This year, I’m going to spend Sundays cooking and planning our meals for the week. You can find a meal planning challenge here.

8. Project 333 Capsule Wardrobe Challenge

If you’ve been toying with the idea of downsizing your wardrobe, give Project 333 a go. The premise is that you choose 33 items to wear for 3 months. You don’t have to throw out your other clothing, you just pack it away and see if you can live without it. It’s a great way to separate what you actually wear and love from the stuff you just hold on to because you feel weird about getting rid of it.

9. Happiness Challenge

If you simply want to improve your happiness, why not take a happiness challenge? Happiness can be elusive but I think acknowledging it’s elusiveness is the first step to actually improving your happiness.

Are you doing any challenges this year? Anything you’d like to work on in 2018?
