5 Things I’m Loving The Shit Out Of Right Now

5 Things I’m Loving The Shit Out Of Right Now

ecommendations really make the world go around. I don’t usually listen to advertising or celebrity endorsements. I pretty much trust only my mates and bloggers who I’ve been reading for ages. All the best things I’ve discovered have come from friend recommendations. I’ve even picked up some great tips from random Facebook comments. I find that people also really love recommending things. I know I do – when I find something awesome I’m like ‘OMG! You HAVE to try this thing that has totally changed my life!’. And then I won’t let it rest until you’ve tried it. I’m persistent like that.

Here are my top five things I’m loving right now – try them immediately or I will be really sad.

1. MooGoo shampoo

My hair is a total nightmare. As in it’s great on good days and rubbish on bad days. I’ve been using Head and Shoulders shampoo for years (scalp issues are the bane of every curly haired gals existence) and my new hairdresser (who I quite like!) was horrified when I told her used it. I know it’s not great for my hair but I need help with my scalp – it’s like flake central if I don’t take care of it. She suggested MooGoo so I ordered some online and it’s kind of amazing. I’ve only used it once but my hair it so much more voluminous and curly than it’s been in ages. I’ll keep you posted but this may be a hard winner.

2. Modi Bodi undies

These are just bloody great. They’re made from bamboo cotton and they’re moisture wicking for when you have your period. So it actually means no more leaks. So you don’t have to check your backside every time you stand up when you have your period, to make sure your tampon or pad didn’t fail you. They’re also really comfortable. I’m going to buy lots more of them.

3. Loose leaf tea

We have these little tea strainer balls at home that are just brilliant and we won’t go back to tea bags anytime soon. It just tastes different – I can’t figure out why but bags just don’t have the punch that loose leaf tea makes. We just buy supermarket Irish breakfast tea but it feels fancy. Love it.

4. 5 Point 4 Meals

I’ve only been doing this for a week but it’s been a lifesaver. It’s $150 for a full week of meals and I don’t have to cook or think. I’m not doing it 100% because I have lots of events and I don’t want to be a party pooper but for every day lunches and dinners, they’re great. I tend to bulk them out a bit with extra veg and a cup of rice for lunch on days when I go to the gym but other than that they’re just ready to go. I’ve tried ready meals before and I’ve had headaches from preservatives but these are made fresh each week, then frozen so you have to eat them pretty quickly. It’s not like gross frozen meals that you can eat in three years time.

5. Maybelline dream velvet

The last time I wrote about foundation I wrote about my favourite Maybelline Dream Wonder and then a lovely reader alerted to me the fact that it’s been discontinued. I’m so, so sad. I’ve been using it solidly for years now. I avoided replacing it for a while, sticking with BB cream but I bought this on impulse last week at the supermarket and I love it. It’s really good. The perfect replacement for my beloved Dream Wonder.

So tell me…

I agree on the loose leaf tea….was given a little Japanese teapot from T2 and some French Earl Gray tea, which is basically normal EG with rose petals. I feel like Marie Antoinette sipping this stuff! My other ‘discovery’ in simple scrambled eggs on a piece of toast for breakky…not instagram or pinterest worthy but just delicious, simple and quick. My third recommendation would be meditation…I think anyone prone to stress/anxiety/depression/moodiness/existential dilemmas should be giving this a red hot go, as my Nan used to say!

I’ve never been a fan of scrambled eggs but poached eggs can live in my belly for ever. Love them! I just find that you don’t get as much bang for your buck – they kind of disappear when you cook them. I try meditation but I’m pretty bad at it – must give it another go!

I so am. I have tea bags at other people’s houses and I’m like ‘Mmmm. Yum…. not!’ 🙂

My partner and I have been watching “The Crown” on Netflix. Great entertainment and it gives us plenty to talk about.

I have been anticipating ‘The Crown’ for months, and I’m so excited by everyone talking about how great it is! I’m personally saving it for some time off I’m going to take in December, but I really can’t wait!

Oh that’s on my list! Apparently it’s an excellent replacement for Downton withdrawels.

I find the larger cup style tea leaf infusers way easier to use and I use it multiple times a day! I got my ones from T2.

Oh I have those ones too! I love them! This tea ball we have is actually awesome – all other tea balls I’ve had have sucked but these ones are great.

Oh and we don’t really use tea bags at all in our house lol. We are Turkish and there’s basically no such thing as a tea bag in Turkey. We have a double teapot which is used at least once a day. But if it’s just me making a cuppa I use the infuser.

Oh man I would love that. I think teapots are the best – I just rarely have enough people around to warrant a pot!

I love loose leaf tea. It seems very grown up. And I just love cute tea strainer thingies.

Oh me too! I never really measure it either I just kind of pinch and sprinkle it in my cup like an ancient apothecary.

Oh you had me at moisture wicking undies! I spent a couple of days last week absolutely FREAKING out about my period. These would make me feel so much better during that time of the month – thanks for sharing! I’d heard of them before but never really paid attention!

I have also found so many amazing things because other bloggers or Facebook followers have shared them. I can’t think of anything off the top of my head to recommend right now, damn it! xx

I love stalking a good recommendation post. My absolute favourite.

On the topic of foundation, I discovered this foundation from Lancome called Teint Miracle Compact Cushion, which is pricey but because I am old (ha!) I need to slather myself in the stuff now and I absolutely no longer care about the price. I’d been using a variety of different ones including an own brand from the beauty store here in the Netherlands, Estee Lauder Double Wear and Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector which really is the business most of the time if I don’t need any coverage, (I love that stuff) but I saw this dinky thing and had to have it and it is gorgeous! It fits in my handbag and I can take it on trips without taking a bulky bottle in my carry-on. It’s my discovery of the week! Oh wow! I love stuff like that! Anything small that won’t take up heaps of space is totally fine by me.

I had a bad experience with Modibodies. Their plus size range isn’t great and the absorbent part of the knickers doesn’t line up with the parts of me that need it! It was a total disappointment because I’d have loved them if they’d worked.

My love of the week is Lush powder deodorant. I was dubious at first but it was the only cruelty free deodorant I could find in Tokyo. It actually works better than I expected. I’m back in Melbourne next month though and the summer heat will be the real test 🙂

Oh bummer! I had one pair I loved and another identical pair but for some reason the waist band on the second pair were tighter which wasn’t great. I’ve been considering a natural deodorant I’m getting a bit weird about chemicals the older I get.

Hey Carly, The great thing about our fabrics is though they may feel snug in the beginning, over time it will conform to your body shape. Thank you for the support!

I’m still OBSESSED with My Favorite Murder podcast, thanks to you Carls!
Also watched two great docos recently; Weiner about disgraced politician Anthony Weiner and Tickled which is Catfish-esque in nature.
Also check out Hell Or High Water if you’re in the mood for a very well-written thriller. Jeff Bridges is fantastic and Chris Pine can really act (and looks pretty fine in the process as a strong, silent cowboy type..)

Oh man I’m so in love with MFM – I’m literally re-listening to it now. And I LOVE Tickled. How bizarre was it??? You have great taste so I’ll def give hell or high water a go. I love a good thriller.

I have got to try the the shampoo you recommended. I’m currently using Head & Shoulder too!! I’ve recently noticed my hair getting dry and lifeless. I tried switching but my curly hair is just ruthless. Thanks for your suggestions!

The thing that is making me grin ear to ear these past few weeks has been finally taking the plunge into veganism. It’s something that I’ve considered for years and it just felt right for me. I’ve been eating so much delicious food, finding loads of new recipes to cook and it’s making my body so happy. I’m loving it.

Oh I’m so glad you’re loving it! I’ve never gone full vegan but I go hardcore plant based most of the time and it’s just great. Plants for the win!

I converted to following the curly girl method by lorraine massey last March. I had flaky irritated scalp for years. Moogoo shampoo is curly girl approved. No sulphates, parabens. Checkout the facebook group aussie girls and guys. I finally love the curly hair I was born with and my scalp is fantastic now.
