adore going places I’ve never been before and I was lucky enough last weekend to spend a few days in glorious Adelaide… and yes it’s true. I’m a born and bred dinky die Aussie that had never been to Adelaide before last weekend. My Little Blog Big business partner Hair Romance and I ran a workshop there and managed to squeeze in a few awesome things in between our presentation. I was totally blown away at how beautiful local Adelaidians are.
They love their city and are so proud of it and makes it such a delight to hang there. I didn’t get a chance to do anything touristy but I think that made it even better. Here are 5 awesome things to do in Adelaide…
Eat at Little NNQ
This place is cheap as chips, totally delicious, BYO and incredibly funky and cool. Apparently the restaurant started out in the burbs and the city dwellers would travel out to this no frills authentic Vietnamese restaurant because the food was so good. They then decided to open up a funky city location. The food is brilliant, the atmosphere is rad. Can’t say much more about it – go there. It’s awesome.
Do a cocktail class at The Flying Trunk
I spent a lot of time at The Trunk and even got the chance to do a cocktail class there. It was the perfect welcome. Our teacher Amy was amazing and taught us how to make mojitos, cosmopolitans and margaritas. I’m now totally up to speed on how to make a mean old fashioned and I also know what my cocktail shaking face looks like.
Eat dinner at The Pot
On our last night we ate an amazing dinner at The Pot. It’s one of those restaurants where every mouthful you have just melts in your mouth and every dish is the best version of that dish you’ve ever eaten. Like I can take or leave arrancini balls in general but the arranchini balls they served were out of this world. The staff are awesome at wine matching too. It’s a little on the upmarket side so don’t be expecting to a cheap feed but it’s worth every mouthful if you’re having a fancy pants dinner.
Have coffee at Cafe Komodo and visit Little City
We spent a lot of time in Prospect at Little City, the beautiful, just-about-to-be-opened co-working space on Prospect Rd. Out the back is a weird little Narnia type cafe called Komodo with retro tables and a gorgeous relaxed vibe. It felt like home there immediately and it was wonderful to spend time in an amazing creative space. If you do live in Adelaide and you’re looking for a venue for pretty much anything, hit up Leah at Little City. They officially open in a month but Leah is a legend. So easy to work with and the space is beautiful.
Drink all the wine
I did’t get a chance to visit any wineries but I did sample much of the local tipple. I had Sharkies recommended to me by a lovely local wine distributer and the wonderful Dell’uva Wines and Lou Miranda Wines very kindly gave us for our workshop.
I’d love to do a few thank you’s for our time in Adelaide…
Little City and Leah (and her gorgeous little family) for putting us up for the day
Dell’uva Wines for the amazing reds – the Syria was just about my perfect tipple
Lou Miranda wines for their killer chardy – so freaking drinkable
Golden North for the afternoon ice-cream treats
Our gift bag sponsors – Aroamas travel perfume sticks and Evo
Emma Kate for her beautiful limited edition prints she made for the workshop and for generally being a giant sweetheart
Mr Romance for being our big solid rock and for getting wine into our hands as soon as humanly possibly after our workshops
Sonia Styling and her gorgeous husband for being our hotel, tour guides, chauffeurs, wake up calls, chefs, bar tenders, dog lenders, and all round awesomeness mongers for the weekend
Sigh! Adelaide… you’ve legit stolen a giant chunk of my heart.

Super stoked you enjoyed your time here. Adelaide still cops it from unfunny comedians stuck in the 90s and people who have never visited but we all know the truth, Adelaide (and SA as a whole) is where it’s at!

Love this write up, we are very spoilt for choices here, so many great bars, restaurants and I have a list of new places I am working my way through. Last Saturday night I ended up at the new location of NNQ restaurant on Woodville Rd. This was my second time, the selection of Vietnamese food is amazing. A month ago I drove past Cafe Komodo on a Friday night and there was a line up of at least 30 people. Tonight I am heading out to a newly opened restaurant called “Hispanic Mechanic”. Another favourite is “Golden Boy” on East Tce. I still need to try out “The Flying Trunk”

I love our capital city. We were there recently and stayed in the city, the trams are great to get around. We went out the entertainment centre (for Disney), went shopping in Rundle Mall and the central markets. We didn’t go this time, but Glenelg is good for a tram ride too, and fab eating (and drnking) along Jetty Road 🙂

Oh I should do Glenelg next time! Sonia had so many she wanted to take us but we were too busy! Next time!

I had no idea Flying Elephant did cocktail making classes. That’s so cool. I must check it out in readiness for spring garden parties! 😀

I went to Cafe Komodo the day you were here, I walked past a store that had ‘Smaggle’ written on a sign in the door, then thought how weird it was that they would use your name.
Get home, check Twitter and realise I’m a total idiot haha. Glad you liked Komodo though, one of the best places in Adelaide, service and food is always incredible.
