The Best Trick To Boost Your Energy In The Afternoon

The Best Trick To Boost Your Energy In The Afternoon

ave you ever accidentally had a micro sleep at your desk in the afternoon? I had a doozy once where I nearly ripped an earring out of my ear. That was bad. If you’re lacking in sleep and you need to slam through an afternoon of work, here’s the best trick to boost your energy in the afternoon.

My partner and I both work from home which means that we work weird hours and sometimes we have to power through projects if we’re on tight deadlines. Normally I’m against this because I think it’s important to make sure that your to-list is manageable but when you’re up to your eyeballs in client emails, sometimes you just need to do whatever it takes to get shit done.

boost your energy in the afternoon

One afternoon years ago we were both at risk of majorly flagging in the afternoon and we couldn’t decide whether or not to have a nap or a coffee. We’d both been reading a lot of literature about sleep patterns when we figured out the magical answer was both. We’ve dubbed this the Espress-Wooze. (For more information on woozing click here).

The Method

1. Drink a coffee
2. Lie down immediately for a 20 minute nap

The Madness

It takes your body about half an hour for the first effects of a caffeine hit to kick in which means that as you’re waking up from your refreshing nap, your coffee will kick in and give you an energy boost. You’ll be both rested and pumped after your micro-sleep.

We’ve been using this little emergency pick me up for years and it’s an absolute life saver when you’re in crisis mode. This is also a killer move if you’ve got to go to a party and you’re really not feeling it. Slam an espresso, lie down for a quick kip and you’ll be party ready in no time. Bonza.

Note: If you work in an office the best option is to grab a takeaway short black, slam it, then have a sleep in your car, under a tree or in an empty office. Don’t forget to set your alarm!

Do you have a secret pick me up for afternoons when you’re feeling a bit shit? Would you try an Espress-wooze?

This is the actual best thing in the world. Tell Jim it works really well if you have you have a hangover and you need a quick pick me up before getting back on the booze again.

May have to try this in my car in the arvo as I don’t think I could pull it off at my desk. As a plus my car is toasty warm in the sun :o)

Car naps are the best. It’s the one thing I really miss about working from home. Legit.

I really used to enjoy your blog, but now there are way more lifestyle-coach-how-to posts. They are not bad, but I preferred it when it was more casual. Now I can actually feel it in your writing that you are doing this as a job.
