Low-Carb Power Food Sweet Potato and Chicken Salad.

by Carly Jacobs
Anyone who was a teenager in the late 90s will always be a little bit scared of carbohydrates. They’re the fat of the 80s. The calories of the 70s. The sugar of the noughties. I’ve spent a good portion of my adult life avoiding bread like it’s poison, and although I’m not quite as stead fastly anti-bread as I used to be, I find that old habits die hard and I often make main meals without you Read the rest!

Gluten Free, No-Bake Cherry Slice.

by Carly Jacobs
Last week, my man and I were wandering through the city and he timidly asked me if I could make him something. When I said yes, he excitedly dragged me to the nearest supermarket, picked up a food magazine and thrust it in my face. ‘This!’ he said flapping the magazine in my face ‘Can you make this? But gluten-free?’. It was cherry slice. Old fashioned, cake stall style, chocolate covered ch Read the rest!

Super Food Beetroot Dip to Make You Glow Like You Just Had Sex.

by Carly Jacobs
Quite recently I bought a little bench top food processor, because I’m really lazy and I hate finely chopping food. I’m so lazy that when I eat carrots, I eat the whole damn thing like a horse, without cutting it into sticks, jamming that bad boy in my hommus like a boss. So I bought a food processor to aid in my new years resolution to not eat like a neanderthal. I’m a total wannabe vegetarian ( Read the rest!

Quick and Healthy Chicken Miso Soup with Rice

by Carly Jacobs
I used to live with one of my best mates who’s half Japanese. When we had a really big night out, she’d always make us miso soup and rice the next morning when we were hung over. If I’m feeling a bit yucky or I need a bit of a pick me up, I always reach for the miso… and tummy tamer Japanese tea. What You Need (feeds about four… depending on how many of them are males in their 20s) 2 Read the rest!

Gluten Free Donuts… from a packet mix.

by Carly Jacobs
I know you guys probably think it’s weird that I keep blogging about making gluten-free treats from packet mixes like I’m some kind of gluten free treat hero but seriously. If you could see my man’s eager little face as he crams non-toxic donuts in his gob. It’s like when you’re sixteen and you realise how awesome it is to be drunk. It’s emotional, you know? I’ve spoken b Read the rest!

Healthy Basil and Beef Portobello Mushrooms with Parmesan Cheese

by Carly Jacobs
I’m always looking for a carbohydrate ‘replacement’ for dinner as I don’t do too well with stodgy food before bed time. What can I say? I’m a granny. This recipe is a nice little substitute when you’re feeling like Italian food but don’t want to eat pizza or pasta. What You Need (serves 4 to 6) 8 Portobello mushrooms Olive oil spray 1 kilo of beef mince 1 large zucchini, di Read the rest!

Low Carb Chilli and Garlic Chicken Omelette with Parmesan Cheese

by Carly Jacobs
I’m constantly looking for ways to eat protein and vegetables in forms other than ‘slapped on a plate’ and yesterday, I was completely jack of eating my salad/tuna combo so I whipped up a chicken omelette. Here’s the recipe. What You Need 1 small chicken breast 2 eggs, whisked in bowl 1/4 red  capsicum diced 2 shallots finely sliced Semi-dried tomatoes cut in to strips 2 large handfuls of b Read the rest!

Gluten Free Crumpets… from a packet mix.

by Carly Jacobs
For those of you who don’t know, my man is a glutard. The poor little lamb also has a rather torturous obsession with baked goods, most of which are made from delicious and poisonous wheat. I’m pretty handy in the kitchen and can whip up some mean GF cookies and cakes but things like crumpets and pies are a little beyond my scope. Recipes for these exist but they usually require the grinding of seeds in Read the rest!

The Perfect Lunch

by Carly Jacobs
I found myself at home for lunch this Wednesday. Instead of heating up leftovers or slapping together an unappetising salad, I made up a plate of fresh tomato, deli meats and mustard. I ate it with chunks of spelt bread and a cup of rose tea. I’ve been trying to eat mindfully recently. To eat when I’m hungry and to eat what my body wants. I’m also enjoying presenting my food restaurant style. It Read the rest!
