’m assuming you’ve seen the Active Wear video and if you haven’t take a moment to check it out here. I’ll just wait for you.

It’s hilarious because it’s true. Well for most people. I’m not an active wear gal. This is not a judgey thing I just don’t like wearing active wear in real life. If I’m going to the gym, I’ll be wearing all manner of quick dry, bullshit, support, microfibre technology crap and I think it’s for this reason that I don’t find active wear that comfortable. It’s designed to stop my boobs falling out when I’m doing burpees and that vice-like compression is not something I need to experience when I’m crocheting on the couch with a cup of tea.

I’m also hugely into comfortable clothing anyway so most of my clothes feel like a giant cloud when I wear them. This dress is a fine example of that.

Wearing

Dress from Muji in New York – I bought it in 2011 and it’s seriously standing the test of time

Flats from Toms

Sunglasses from Randolph

Here’s how to get dressed when active wear isn’t an option…

– Wear something you could quite comfortably fall asleep in. If you can sleep in it, you can feel comfy in it all day.
– Choose something in a loose cut. It will provide the comfort of active wear without the casual Lycra-ness of yoga pants.
– Always go with stripes. This dress feels like a giant uggboot to wear (it’s cosy yet breathable) but it still looks like I made a bit of an effort, when in fact I made no effort at all. Win.

This outfit was worn for a casual walk into the city one hot afternoon followed by a session on the couch with Veggie Mama watching Clueless for Sweet Teen Club. I’m trying to cut down on dairy at the moment, including milk in my coffee so I stocked up on tea at T2. Have you tried their strawberry and cream tisane? It’s out of this world.

Do you wear active wear when you aren’t being active? Or would you not be caught dead outside the gym in your yoga pants?

T2’s strawberry & cream was the first tea of theirs I ever tried YEARS ago… still love it!! And their Lamington tea is top notch!
Also, LOVE your dress – trying to build my collection of big comfy dresses like that so I can be comfy every day 🙂

I cannot get enough of that tea – it’s amazing. I drink like ten cups of it a day! Honestly, if I could go back in time and buy ten of these dresses I would!

I can’t even with T2 – when they first opened I thought they were a bit gimmicky but I freaking love them. Easily one of my favourite shops and I go there all the time.

If I’m not going anywhere special/important I can guarantee you I will be in my active wear. I do all of the chores I hate in my active wear, this includes grocery shopping, the post office run and actual working out. My favorite thing to do is to go out with no makeup on with my hair in a ponytail, active wear and a very worn out pair of runners – it makes shopping so much easier because pushy obnoxious sales people leave me the hell alone and generally pretend like I’m not there. Score! I also own several velour track suits that I wear out allllllllllllllllllll the time in winter – you know those Peter Alexander ones that you probably aren’t supposed to wear out of your home? I wear them everywhere. I actually get a huge kick out of looking like a slob and walking around my local shopping center in my ugg boots and pajamas like some sort of Queen of the Bogans.

I guess the reason I enjoy wearing active wear so much is because it is such a contrast to my usual vintage look that I will wear if I am at work/doing stuff that isn’t shit chores. I also like to laugh about what dicks people are because whether I am in my uggs and pjs or wearing a vintage outfit – I still get people pointing fingers and laughing behind their hands, so you can’t really win can you?

    Viva la active wear!

Really? I love hearing that because I adore your vintage style but it must take hours to do that. I love that you relax and take time away from done up Harlow. I think that’s very healthy!

I think I’m actually getting too comfortable in my clothes. My work is really relaxed about clothing, so long as it’s not too low cut or anything, so I’ve just been wearing jeans, tshirts and sneakers.
Which I love! And could totally fall asleep in!
But the people who I admire at work are not dressing like that… So I need to make some changes. I don’t even know what kind of changes I want to make, but I need to make some.
    Thinking cap on!

I think people should just wear what they’re comfortable in! If you feel comfy in jeans wear them, if you feel comfy all dolled up do that! The reason I don’t wear active wear in public is because I don’t feel comfortable in them. 🙂

Yes I wear active wear a lot. I explained why here: https://short4dorothy.wordpress.com/2015/10/18/things-people-say-about-mums-that-really-shit-me-1-yoga-clothes/

I do try to make a bit more effort sometimes though. I love that dress!!!
