How To Leave The Gym Without Looking Like A Hot Mess

How To Leave The Gym Without Looking Like A Hot Mess

o I’ve recently re-joined my local gym and I’m loving it. The only issue is that I often go to the gym on the way to meetings or my office and I obviously don’t love looking like a drowned rat all day. I’ve got a little bag of essentials I carry with me to the gym to make sure I look public ready after my workouts. I’ve become not too shabby at making myself look presentable after I’ve been sweating for an hour so I thought I’d pop together a post to teach you how to leave the gym without looking like a hot mess. Here’s what you need…

how to leave the gym without looking gross

1. Baby wipes

If you don’t have time for a shower after the gym (I mean really, who does?) just give yourself a quick dry-shower with a baby wipe and re-apply your deodorant and perfume. You won’t feel quite as fresh as if you had a shower but it will stop you from being totally stinky for the rest of the day.

2. Blow dryer

Most gyms have blow dryers so you won’t need to pack your own. At the end of a gym session, I give the roots of my hair a blast with hot air to dry my sweaty patches and it gives my hair heaps of volume and texture. I am lucky with curly hair though because sweat makes my hair look better but if you have hair that looks worse after a work out, figure out a way around it. Try a head scarf or a pony-tail. Not going to the gym because it will ruin your hair is a terrible excuse. Put your big kid pants on and find a way to fix it.

3. BB cream

Once you’ve cooled down completely, pop on some BB cream. I find my body temperature is just too high for full foundation after the gym, so I go lighter on make up on exercise days.

4. Mascara

A few swipes of mascara makes me feel more polished and like I’ve put more effort into my appearance than I have. Tip: Keep a separate mascara in your hand bag so you don’t forget it or have to keep stealing the one from your every day make up kit.

5. Lipstick

My best mate taught me that lipstick always makes you look fancier. If you wear bright lipstick, no matter what else you’re wearing, you’ll always look dressed up. If I wear bright pink lipstick after the gym, I always get complimented, even if my hair is a little bit greasy and I don’t smell as fresh as I could.

I usually go before work so definitely make time to shower afterwards. But I don’t have time to wash, dry, straighten my hair, so I use dry shampoo post-work out. I also find it helps to have a cool damp cloth throughout the workout to wipe your face with – I get a really red face when I exercise so this helps prevent getting too red

Oh yeah if you go first thing in the morning, a shower is essential! I get super red while exercising too!

  2. You are right – Baby Wipes are brilliant for all sorts of things and I always have a packet in my handbag. I’m usually able to have a shower after exercising but I would get a lot of use out of my dry shampoo if that wasn’t possible!

I turn beetroot red if my heart rate goes above about 80bpm so there is NOTHING that will save me. I just have to accept that I will look hideous. Or not workout. (I usually choose the not working out option).
