How To Wear Jeans When You Never Wear Jeans

hen I say ‘never’ I use the term rather loosely… or completely incorrectly. Which ever way you want to look at it. I very rarely wear jeans or pants. I don’t really know why, I just feel more comfortable in dresses. Quite recently though I’ve been busting out these well worn Witchery jeans and I’ve been finding them extremely comfortable. Here’s how to wear jeans when you never wear jeans.

Witchery jeans
Cos top
Ecco boots
Handmade crocheted circle scarf
Cardigan from Zhai

Tips

– Get stretch jeans. They’re like pyjama pants.
– Take the time to wear them in. No jeans are comfortable straight away – you’ve got to wear them in like leather shoes. Try wearing them at home in front of the TV at night for a week. They should be perfect by the weekend.
– Dress them up. Most of the time I feel self conscious wearing jeans because I feel too casual. I find jewellery and semi-non-casual shoes to be my best bet for not feeling too daggy in jeans.

This outfit was worn for an unusually chilly work day, followed by a quick gym session, a massive laundromat visit because my stupid washing machine is broken and packing for an epic few days away. I did manage to squeeze a little bit of crocheting in at the end of the day which was lovely.

Are you a jeans wearer? Or a dress wearer? Or a little bit of both?

Im so much more into skirts and dresses. In winter i wear jeans cos im cold but i mostly hate it. A couple of months ago i wore a new pair of jeans to wear them in for my upcoming Europe trip and my husband actually said to me ‘are you feeling ok, why are you wearing jeans, you never wear jeans’ lol. So clearly i really ‘never’ wear jeans :p
Although I’m now on said Europe trip and its been cool and rainy in Amsterdam and Paris so I’ve been making friends with my jeans :p

I wear jeans if I can wear a coat over the top. Winter jeans only! 🙂

  2. As a [extremely girly] kid, I declared myself “allergic to jeans”, I thought they were just the worst (and in the mid 80s, they were, all chunky poor fitting uncomfortable denim). I had the luxury of living in a hotter climate then and soon changed my tune when we moved to a town significantly colder. Now I quite happily swing between both depending on the weather.

Oh my god how bloody awful was 80s 90s denim? What were we thinking??? I bought a pair of 70s high waisted jeans years ago and I could not wear them in. They were made of steel.

I just started wearing dresses on a regular basis over the last 5 years or so. I found that jeans or trousers never looked good on me as I am short and stout (like a little teapot!) Do you know that nursery rhyme? Anyway I find that I feel better in dresses and I get a whole bunch more compliments, but also concern about me being over dressed. Which I rarely feel. I think the jean wearers just feel like I am showing them up by being dressed upish. I try to reassure those who comment that I am basically wearing the same clothes as them except my top is longer and bottoms are tights. I love eShakti dresses because they fit perfectly as soon as the post delivers them.

I’m exactly the same – I’m tall but I’m stocky so I have to be careful. I have to wear a long top! Short shops and pants on me are such a no go.

Could not live without my jeans for the cooler months – I have a multitude of colours, some skinny, some straight leg. I also like to wear dresses. Not so much with the skirts. Only stipulation with the jeans – they must be comfortable. I am wearing a pair right now at my desk at work (it’s ok, it’s my lunch break). You can totally dress them up with a smart jacket, a bit of bling and some heeled ankle boots. (PS NYDJ are the bomb!).

You know that’s so true – I’m not into skirts at all but dresses I’m all over those! I actually bought a pair of NYDJ and honestly I didn’t rate them that much. They’re were a bit stiff and high waisted for me. Will give them another go this winter though!

I found THE BEST pair of jeans in Kmart last weekend. I’m in love with them and going back to buy another pair this weekend.

I LOVE jeans. When I was a teenager I had seven pairs. I mostly prefer pants because I don’t feel comfortable with thigh chaffing that happens with dresses.

The struggle is real with thigh chaffing but it’s only an issue for me on like super super hot days!

I don’t even own a pair of jeans. They look so awful on me. On the few occasions that I need to not wear a skirt/dress I usually go for a shorts/leggings combo 🙂

I’m a leggings gal but pretty much on for exercise and then I wear pretty serious hardcore exercise stuff!
