Monday Blues: 5 Tips That Will Make You Want To Pash Mondays

Mondays are painful, let’s just admit it. I don’t hate them as much anymore because I work from home but Mondays are still the worst day of the week. You can’t sleep in on Monday, you can’t have treats on Monday and you definitely can’t skip the gym Monday. The weekend is further away than it’s ever been. Monday expects so much more from you than other days.

I always feel like I need to be the very best version of myself on Monday or otherwise, I’ll just ruin the week. Do you know what I mean? It’s like Monday is the boss of the rest of the days and if you don’t respect Monday, it tells all its mates you were a dick and then all the other days suck too.

Here’s how I beat the Monday blues…

1. Get plenty of sleep on Sunday night

Even if you’re not tired, have a slow and peaceful journey to bed. Have a cup of tea, read a book, cleanse your face, grab a hot water bottle (if it’s cold) and mindfully switch off for the night. You don’t have to go to sleep straight away but just be in bed, with a book and your phone very far away from you so you start the week well rested.

2. Write a Can Do List on Sunday

I write a ‘Can Do’ list on Sunday. It’s more positive than a ‘To Do’ isn’t it? You want to complete the items in the first list but you have to complete the items in the second. It’s a nice little mind trick. I like it a lot.

3. Exercise in the morning to create a good habit for the week

I know I say this constantly but exercise is the bees knees. It increases productivity, helps you live longer, improves your energy and your mood and keeps your body in tip top shape while also preventing aches and pains. If I don’t exercise in the morning, I’m practically guaraneteed to have a bad day.

4. Be grateful

If I don’t feel like sitting at my desk and working I always think how grateful I am to work from home, in an industry I love. It’s important to remind myself that I’m being a spoiled little shit by complaining about it. Usually fixes me right up! If you’re struggling with Monday just think about all the things you’re grateful for. A steady job that pays the bills, a comfortable home, food in the fridge, a happy, healthy family. A boring job is better than no job so try to remember that when you’ve got the Monday morning grumps.

5. Eat your frogs

If there’s something I don’t want to do, I do it first thing on Monday morning. Monday morning productivity is precious and should be spent very wisely. Monday morning is not for answering emails – you don’t need to be super sharp and on the ball for that so save that for the afternoon when you’re really in struggle town.
