Motivation Isn’t Real

H

ere’s a giant truth bomb that will probably change your life. Motivation doesn’t really exist. The only difference between people who do things and people who don’t is the people who do things, do things. That’s it. No one has a special motivation gland they were born with.

Motivation is like a shitty friend – never there when you need them and they make you feel like an enormous failure.

You don’t need motivation. What you need is to stop arguing with yourself and just do the shit that needs to get done. It really is as simple as that.

This week on Straight and Curly, Kelly and I are talking about motivation.

What about you? Do you struggle to get things done?

Are we mates on Facebook yet?

You’re absolutely right! People who get things done have priorities that they do whether they “feel like it” or not. I wrote a post on it earlier this year – http://commonsenseliving.com/i-dont-feel-like-it/

Right now, I don’t feel like making dinner, but I will…and I’ll love it.

Oh totally! That’s what I’m doing tonight – I don’t want to plan my social media but I’ll be behind tomorrow if I don’t so I’m having tea and watching a good show and getting it done!

I think you have to create your own motivation. Not just wait for the mood to strike you. It definitely reveals your true priorities! I struggle in the afternoons. I hate making dinner during the school week and then cleaning up the kitchen. I’ve started playing music while I do it and it helps me to get moving.
Something I need to work on is my diet and exercise – seriously lacking in motivation there! I need to just do it. Like Nike says haha.

Oh totally – there’s nothing that will make you do something. You have to make you do something. Which means you also have to be a bit kinder to yourself as well for those times when you really can’t do it – no one is perfect all the time!

This speaks to the saying…”If you want something done…ask a busy person..”!

Absolutely. I get so much more stuff done when I’m busy.
