Be your best self.

Nobody is Perfect

Nobody is Perfect

omehow in this weird world, I’ve managed to carve a career out of one of my passions. Self improvement. Every week day I publish a post on this blog hoping to inspire someone to make a small change in their life for the better. It occurred to me quite recently that sometimes this might come across as preachy, which is absolutely not my intention at all. I’ve been in the wellness/productivity/life improvement game for eight years now and I thought it was about time I address some of my challenges and how I combat them.

1. I’m very easily distracted, so I have to use timers and boundaries to keep myself on track.
2. I have a tendency to over-eat, so I have to practice hard core portion control.
3. I’m very fomo (fear of missing out), so I have to do a lot of positive self talk to remind myself that I can’t be everywhere and do everything all the time.

Smaggle is all about manageable and non-painful advice to help everyone lead the best life they can. However it all starts with recognising what your daily challenges are and how you can go about addressing them.

This week on Straight and Curly Kelly and I discuss the fact that nobody is perfect. We outline our flaws and talk about how we try (and try again) to overcome them. If you haven’t listened to Straight and Curly yet, this is a great place to start.

You can find this week’s episode about the impossible pursuit of perfection on Straight and Curly – a podcast for self improvement junkies. Each week we try a life hack like eating 5 cups of vegetables every day or keeping a gratitude journal. Then we report on our findings and tell you whether you should try it or whether it’s a giant waste of your time.

If you don’t know how to listen to podcasts don’t fret – here are a few tips.

iPhone users

Open up the podcast app on your phone (it already lives there so you don’t need to download it) and search for Straight and Curly. Then hit subscribe and you’re good to go.

Android users

The same as iPhone users but you just use the Android podcast app.

Desktop users

You can listen to it while you work at your computer – just click this link here.

Or you can listen to it right here –

If you love the podcast, it would be totally ace if you left a review. It helps other self improvement junkies to find each other and then we can sit around and talk about sleep hygiene and productivity apps. Hells yeah.

What are your challenges? What things to do you daily that stop you from being the best person you can be?

I’m in these places too – Facebook, Twitter, Bloglovin, Instagram, Youtube and the Smaggle weekly newsletter – you should follow me because I told you to.

Ive never found that to be your tone at all. Your website to me feels like a group of friends sharing advice rather than preachy. Preachy would shit me to absolute tears and I wouldn’t come back time and time again for solid practical advice. Dont feel bad about good intentions done right ?

Never preachy my lovely. Always a font of wise, sensible advice. My main flaw – not being fluid or going with the flow. I can be a bit rigid and want things just so. In our house we call it “every table has 4 chairs”, which stems from my travelling days when I was in a cafe in East Berlin. Yes, I am that old – was there years before the wall came down. Anyway, the very stern looking waitress was ignoring us. Someone got up and asked her if she could serve us, to which she responded very severely in her excellent German English “every table has 4 chairs!” You see, there were 5 of us and we had taken a chair from another table, as you do. Still makes me smile when I think of it. Xx

Oh that’s so me! I try to go with the flow but I get very stressed out with things like long lines and other people not paying attention to the rules. Honestly, the world would be a well oiled machine if I ran it!

Oh good! Let me know if you enjoyed it – we’re still learning and would love feedback!

  4. My biggest challenge is not looking after myself so not practising self care or self compassion. I know I should and to anyone else that was me in my situation who came to me for advice I would tell them they need to show themselves more care and compassion. That is what I don’t do well.
Hope your holiday is going well!

Self care is so important but the hardest part is not feeling guilty about giving time to it. Just FYI, you should never feel guilty about giving time to it. 🙂

I’ve just heard about Jamberries – am keen to give them a try!

Podcasts are really getting smashed by me at the moment (including two of yours) – I very into Mia Freedman’s No Filter at the moment.

I’m also loving my Mummat hiking boots, they’re getting a bit of a workout and they’re serving my feet really well.

They’re really good! I didn’t want to be that person but I’m very much sold on them. Thank you for listening to the podcast – I’m so glad people are liking it.
