3 Things I’ve Tried That Totally Sucked

3 Things I’ve Tried That Totally Sucked

I

never not recommend things to people. I often recommend things – like movies, foods, wines, books, TV shows – because they’re awesome and I want my mates to experience them. If I discover something terrible though, I rarely talk about. I kind of go ‘Oh that sucked.’ and never think about it again. So today I decided to write about a few things I’ve tried, that sucked.

Bullet journalling

Everyone went mental for bullet journalling in the last few months and I lasted one day doing it. I just couldn’t cope with re-writing everything everyday. I couldn’t remember the symbols and I felt like a giant failure at the end of the day for not getting everything done. It was a disaster. I know a lot people have had great success with bullet journalling, but it’s not for me.

Juicing

Juicing is not the same as green smoothies. I fully support green smoothies because you’re using the whole vegetable or fruit there by getting all the nutrients and not wasting any produce. I juiced for a month a few years ago and gained 4 kilos and wasted bags and bags of vegetable pulp that I couldn’t do anything with. All the research shows that you’re far better off just eating what you juice. Even though green smoothies are better than juicing, it’s still better to eat rather than drink your greens. Having said that, it’s notoriously difficult to get your greens in for breakfast so you’re better off drinking your greens than not having them at all. But juicing? It’s so voted off the Smaggle island.

Meditation

Meditation makes me very sleepy, so I can’t do it during the day otherwise I just want to curl up into a ball and snooze for a century. I do find meditation very helpful for getting to sleep if I’m struggling but if I need to focus when my energy has flagged during the day. I’m much better off going for a 20-minute jog than meditating. It honestly makes me feel stoned.

This week on Straight and Curly, Kelly and I talking about things we’ve tired that we’ve hated. We’d love to hear about anything you’ve tried and hated. You can join our Facebook group here and you can listen to this week’s episode on iTunes or here in this post!

On Sweet Teen Club this week and Stacey and I talking about Friends. Well, I’m talking about Friends… Stacey kind of just nods and smiles and says ‘Who’s Ross again?’

So tell me… have you ever tried something you’ve totally hated? What’s the one thing you wouldn’t recommend to a friend?

I tried bullet journaling as well, but I found it more complicated than doing the things on my list, so I gave it up pretty quickly. My to-do list is stressful enough, I don’t need to add writing down my to-do list to the stress. LOL.
I also agree with you on juicing… I don’t get the point of it? Let’s pull out all the nutrients and vitamins and then drink the calories and sugar. You want an apple that bad, go eat a damn apple. It’s a whole lot better for you if you eat it whole…

Totally! I’m so against juicing and also totally against the people who push it – why do all food processors come with juicers? So unnecessary!

I think the actual bullet journaling technique is far too complicated to maintain over a long period unless you’re truly dedicated to the process. I operate off a very simple modified bullet journal system, which basically involves me penning down in bullet points what I need to do in a particular week (on a weekly mini planner) and that keeps everything shipshape. In the end, a planner only works, if it’s actually used, and useful! 🙂

  3. I tried daily yoga but I soon realised I prefer a class situation & exercise that makes me sweary & makes my body hurt afterwards. I want to be one of those zen yoga/Pilates ladies not I’m not. I’m the combat class lady ( who then does a balance class just to stretch all her old tired muscles) & I’m ok with not doing the yoga daily.

I’m exactly that person! I’m also very bendy and flexible so I do yoga and my body is like ‘And…?’ I need to sweat and cry!

I got about a third into the bullet journalling video before deciding the video itself takes too long, also the process seemed super unnecessary.

This is going to be unpopular (maybe) but I tried watching ‘Girls’ and found it super boring as a show. Maybe because I’m not 20 anymore and don’t seem to find everything in life so dramatic as the characters in that show.

I don’t hate it – the last season was actually okay because Jessa stopped being a giant biz-nitch. And yes if it take half an hour to explain to me how to do a thing, I don’t want to do the thing.

I’m with you on bullet journaling! Waaay too complicated for me. The one thing I kept from it, though, is the arrow thing which I now use in my work to-do list: I have a daily list, and at the end of the day check the things I’ve done, crosses the ones that aren’t relevant anymore, and arrow the ones I’ve not had a chance to do and need to report on to the following day’s list. It shows me how many (and what type) of things I don’t make a priority or errr, procrastinate..

Oh good! I like that you got a good tip out of it – sometimes it’s all about tweaking an existing system to make it work for you!
