What Travel Clothes in Australia Are The Best?
Carly Jacobs
I

travel a lot for my work. Which is great but also a bit rubbish because finding appropriate travel clothes to wear in Australia is hard, particularly in summer. Sometimes I just want a full month in my own house without having to pack a bag but also I’m incredibly fomo so I only need someone to suggest a weekend a way and I’m like ‘Sweet. I’ll get the wine, you get the cheese.’ Thus I constantly have the struggle of packing so I don’t look horrible on the plane/when I arrive at my destination.

I’ve got my travel sequence down pat now – I keep most of my toiletries in a travel bag permanently and the places I visit regularly – like my parents house and Mr Smaggle’s family farm – have a set of basic things I keep there like a toothbrush and moisturiser. So I tend to just pop a few dresses and pairs of undies in bag, minimalist style.

Tips for Travel Clothes in Australia

Wear flat shoes. Running through an airport in cute heels is stressful and also ridiculous. Pack heels in your carry on if you need fancy footwear when you get to where you’re going.

Wear something that is supposed to crinkle, like linen. It’s breathable and it’s supposed to look a bit dishevelled so when you get off the plane you’ll look exactly as you’re meant to.

Take a mini wheelie suitcase for your carry on and a small-ish handbag with your essentials in it. That way you can check your luggage into a luggage holding place without messing around with big bags.

Take a light cardigan or a wrap – they’re life savers when you’re going from plane to car to train. You can throw them over your legs when you’re having a nap or pop them over your shoulders when you’re chilly.

Travel Clothes in Australia

This outfit was worn for a crazy day of travel. I had an intense workshop with my agency for planning and content for Smaggle, lunch with the agency crew and then got on a train to spend some time at Mr Smaggle’s family farm. We spend a lot of time there but it’s so peaceful and productive – whenever we go to Sydney we always take a detour to the farm for a few days. Mr Smaggle’s grandma took herself off to Telstra in Sydney and bullied them into extending the NBN line to include the farm so we have CRAZY fast internet there. It’s awesome. She went in and told them how her grandsons needed good internet at the farm and they actually came and installed it! How badass is grandma?

What have you been up to so far this year? Chilled out loveliness? Crazy travel? Work?

Go Grandma! I think everyone needs her in their life haha. I’m a slightly reformed over-packer. I have been so impressed with myself on my last two interstate trips. I packed the EXACT right amount of everything. I was so excited about that. I should think through my flight clothes more though I imagine. I just look dishevelled no matter what I choose! I’d also suggest fairly neutral make up. Nobody wants to turn up looking like a panda bear that’s been eating lipstick!

Oh totally and in summer, I hardly wear make up at all because it just slides off my face. I used to over pack too but then only wear half the stuff in my bag!

  2. Nice work on the NBN bullying. Would she mind coming down to do the same for me in suburban Adelaide where the next street over has it and I don’t?!!?

I want her to do that Fitzroy too! It’s in the suburb next door. So much rage.

I’m very into bamboo fabrics for travel atm. It’s temperature regulating so perfect for most climates. It has a heap of other advantages too. My favourite is a bamboo/cashmere wrap my sister got me for my birthday last year. So perfect.
